So unfortunately, my hubs has now decided he doesn’t like [name]Boden[/name]/Bodie. Insists it’s a totally weird name and sounds made up. He came up with all sorts of names last night, but honestly I could not embrace most of them. He claims to love [name]Lyle[/name] but the true crime buff in me thinks of [name]Eric[/name] and [name]Lyle[/name] Menendez who killed their parents. Also, our last name sounds like Locklin, so that’s a whole lot of alliteration. My name happens to start with a L but I married into this last name and it’s one L in any case. Besides, I’m pretty sure my Hispanic nanny will butcher the name.
So we are down to:
[name]Sawyer[/name]
or
[name]Everett[/name]
I have issues with both of them, but at this point…with about 10 weeks to go, I honestly don’t think any of the issues are dealbreakers.
I like [name]Sawyer[/name]'s spunky, wild side. I have two issues: Trendiness as I have seen it pop as the intended name on some baby name boards and sisters names are [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]. We did not set out on a S trend and initially I wanted to steer away from S names for this reason, but honestly I don’t even care anymore. I know there are some very opinionated nameberries that HATE names starting with the same letter, but while it was never my goal, I honestly don’t care and it’s not as if I am naming my kids, [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Kayla[/name], and [name]Keely[/name] which just sound the same overall.
I like [name]Everett[/name] a lot and it’s really been there lingering almost from day one. My main issue is the -ett ending which matches [name]Scarlett[/name]. I didn’t want to create a naming trend which left [name]Sadie[/name] out. Also, I would never use the nickname [name]Rhett[/name] due to the Gone with the Wind association.
So all that being said, which would you go for [name]Sawyer[/name] or [name]Everett[/name] and why?
Thanks so much for the advice these last few months…I really think we are almost there.
I’d go with [name]Sawyer[/name] due to creating a common thread rather than creating a divide between them the the -ett endings. I think the s names all have a unique sound and they don’t bother me together at all. Also, I think both of your girls’ names have a spunk to them that works with [name]Sawyer[/name].
I like [name]Everett[/name] much better, personally (it’s on my own top 2), but I think [name]Sawyer[/name] goes much better with [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]–it fits in, without being too matchy ([name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Everett[/name]). I don’t know if you plan on having more after this one, but if you end up with just three, I think this way, [name]Everett[/name] wouldn’t feel left out (since he doesn’t have an “S” name like his sisters), and [name]Sadie[/name] wouldn’t feel left out (because she doesn’t have an “ett” name). [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], and [name]Sawyer[/name] are great together. And I like the literary associations for both [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Sawyer[/name] (I’m sure there’s probably one for [name]Sadie[/name], too, but I’m drawing a blank atm!).
Perhaps [name]Everett[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name] or [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Everett[/name]? Unless you already have a middle picked out?
[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Everett[/name] nn [name]Ever[/name]. [name]Sawyer[/name] is nice too, but I think [name]Everett[/name] is a tad stronger sounding.
I kinda love the alliteration of [name]Lyle[/name] Locklin. [name]Lyle[/name] is a simple enough name (but cool, sly, sassy) that the alliteration makes it sound famous, not ridiculous. It’s not like [name]Lonnie[/name] Locklin or Lulabelle Locklin. I think [name]Lyle[/name] is masculine and unusual.
[name]Sawyer[/name] Locklin is also good. I’d say [name]Sawyer[/name] over [name]Everett[/name] with your last name. [name]Everett[/name], though lovely, sounds a little clipped next to the strong sounds of Locklin. I prefer the softer, slinkier [name]Sawyer[/name]. Plus, who’s better than [name]Mark[/name] [name]Twain[/name]?
[name]Ash[/name]: We do plan on staying at 3. My husband was okay with two and I am the one who wanted 3. I think his head might explode with 4. I am over 35 already and we have some genetic issues which make miscarriages very likely, so I doubt the potential for any “oopsies.”
I like the [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Everett[/name] combo. We don’t have a middle name, but some possibilities are [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]James[/name] or [name]Jamison[/name] for family reasons.
On it’s own I’d personally prefer the name [name]Everett[/name], but with having a [name]Scarlett[/name] already, I think the ett ending would be a deal breaker for me.
[name]Sawyer[/name] is not a bad name. Also, [name]Lyle[/name] I think is pretty awesome, well worth keeping in the running.
I much prefer [name]Everett[/name].
We have friends who recently named their baby [name]Sawyer[/name] and me and my husband both rolled our eyes when we heard the name.
I don’t know, it seems pretentious or something to me.
[name]Everett[/name] has more of a strong solid sound to it.
