Back to Asher....maybe?

My break from names hasn’t really worked, but we have taken a few options off the list and it’s starting to feel like [name]Asher[/name] might be back on the table. DH has liked it from the start so he would be happy. I have always like the meaning, and this baby boy is a surprise addition to our family so the “fortunate/blessed” part of the meaning has some real appeal from that point of view. I know it is growing in popularity all over the place and some people really don’t like it for that reason, but it certainly isn’t anywhere near [name]Oliver[/name] (which was the other name that had started to grab my attention but is number 3 on the list where I live - [name]Asher[/name] is 95). I have run it past a few people who all seem to like it, so…maybe it could be the one …if I could figure out a mn combo…

In my head I like [name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] but I worry that the 2 names are quite feminine sounding and perhaps I should go for something in the middle that is more masculine? Also it is a 2-2 syllable name, which isn’t ideal and I know that a 2-3 would probably be better, but our surname is hypenated 2-4, so it’s already going to be a long name.

Here are some options I have considered (based on my name list):
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] (concerns as above, but there is something about [name]Ambrose[/name] that I just love)
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (DH doesn’t like [name]Theodore[/name] - but if I look like I’m “giving” him [name]Asher[/name], he might go for it…)
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Everett[/name] (worry about the repeated er sound in this)
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Edward[/name] ([name]Edward[/name] honours my grandfather, I wouldn’t use [name]Edward[/name] as a fn)
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] (double er ending…a bit rhymey I think and just not sure about the flow)

Opinions and suggestions welcome! You have all been such a great help so far

[name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] is not too feminine at all. It’s a softer name, but it’s still very masculine - as well as distinguished and handsome. I would be pleasantly surprised to meet a little boy named [name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name].

[name]Asher[/name] [name]Edward[/name] is my second favorite.

I think [name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] is a lovely combination, not at all too feminine. Its certainly my favourite from the list you mentioned.
[name]Asher[/name] is a nice name, I much prefer it to the more common [name]Ashton[/name].

Thanks both of you, I do think there is something nice about the feel to [name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name] and I’m going to keep working on it but for now DH isn’t sold on the idea, so looks like I might need some more options. I don’t think any of the other ideas I listed have quite the same vibe…
Has anyone got any alternatives they think might have the same feel/style as [name]Asher[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name]? I’m open to suggestions.

Thanks

I like [name]Asher[/name] [name]Everett[/name], myself. I think it’s better to have a first name and middle name that don’t have the same ending. And the double ‘er’ sound didn’t bother me in the slightest.

If your husband isn’t totally happy with [name]Asher[/name], would he consider the shortened version [name]Ash[/name]? I think that would combine well with any of the names combos you posted.

I adore [name]Asher[/name] so much, and I much prefer it [name]Oliver[/name] (#2 in the UK).

[name]Asher[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Everett[/name] are both great, for the latter I don’t really pronounce the ‘er’ in [name]Everett[/name] - it sounds more like EV-rett.

Thanks again. I am such a fan of [name]Theodore[/name] and I think it would be a good compromise name, since DH loves [name]Asher[/name] and I love [name]Theodore[/name]. I also think [name]Theodore[/name] is a more masculine name which maybe balances out my feelings about [name]Asher[/name] sounding feminine - I know so many [name]Ashley[/name]'s/[name]Ashleigh[/name]'s/[name]Ashlee[/name]'s that I think it just has that vibe for me.
As a “back up fn” I am really liking [name]Finlay[/name] and I think that [name]Finlay[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] could be an option as well. But I’m not sure on the pronunciation of [name]Finlay[/name]. I have Scottish heritage myself, so prefer the [name]Finlay[/name] spelling over the [name]Finley[/name] spelling but is it “lay” as in lay down or is it still pronounced like “lee” - I’ve read differing opinions on this one. I’d go with whatever the common UK usage is.

Thanks again for the help, I really do feel like we are starting to get somewhere at long last!

I love [name]Theodore[/name], so I’m biased. But taking the bias out, I still think it sounds the best next to [name]Asher[/name]. [name]Asher[/name] is a shorter name and [name]Theodore[/name] has a bit more substance so I really like the way they flow together.

I completely agree  sounds like a winner to me…unless you are having more children and wanted to save [name]Theodore[/name] possibly for that baby.

Definitely still [name]Fin[/name]-lee, regardless of the spelling. I only like the [name]Finlay[/name] spelling too.

Thanks!
1234plus1 - this surprise boy is definitely the last, and DH won’t go for [name]Theodore[/name] as a fn anyway, so this might be my only chance to use it.
Thanks sheflieswithherownwings for the pronunciation help with [name]Finlay[/name], it’s a definite contender as well.
