What do you think
I think it’s pretty clear you’ve made your mind up. And if DH is just as happy with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] - great! No one else’s opinion should matter too much.
That said, I do prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. Is the issue with nicknames that you really don’t like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] is cute, and both sound great with [name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
Most people don’t use nicknames unless they are introduced that way, or hear someone else using the nickname. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if they do, a quick “we prefer X or Y” will politely set them straight. If you prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], 99% of people will stick to that. [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] is a lovely name. I’ll admit I also had the thought of feminised boys names pop into my head with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] stops that trend from happening.
I see what you mean about hearing male names with an A on the end with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f].
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] as alternatives to [name_f]Willa[/name_f] on its own? [name_f]Willa[/name_f] could be the nickname.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
On the other hand, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] sound lovely together!
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f]
Switch to calling her [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. If you feel better, that’s the name. My 3rd we agreed on one name (Orwell) but I kept going back to another ([name_m]Truman[/name_m]). So we gave [name_m]Truman[/name_m] a trial run and never went back. Good luck figuring it out.
PS in my example I also was under the impression my husband was extremely in love with Orwell. He easily agreed to give [name_m]Truman[/name_m] a trial run and then he’s the one who didn’t want to give it up. Men are funny.
Thank you! The feminized boy name thing really does bug me, although other people have said they wouldn’t have put it together- I still hear it. I do think we’ll be able to make [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] work without a nickname, but yes the one nickname I really don’t like is [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Funny because I do like [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think people will jump to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] if we use [name_f]Elle[/name_f]?
Thank you! That’s what we’ll be doing. It is funny that you had a similar experience. My husband’s “love” for [name_f]Willa[/name_f] was one of the main factors pushing me toward it- without that [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] is really taking the lead. It’s been good to call her [name_f]Willa[/name_f] the last few weeks and sit with that and I think that’s what helped me get some clarity- so going to start calling her [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] now as you suggest and hopefully that’ll seal the deal!
People nowadays will probably stick to whatever you say. And if they do use one, wont insist on calling them that name if you correct it. [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f], in my opinion, are both much nicer than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I don’t think anyone would use a nickname of you clarify that you use [name_f]Elle[/name_f]
Thanks! I’m not crazy about [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] unfortunately. I love the sweet, simple, straightforwardness of [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. But I really can’t get past the boy name with an A thing…
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] is lovely! I’d go for it!
As for the nickname concern, if you like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Elle[/name_f], I think it would stick. Equally, the only [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] I’ve known went by her full name and no one tried to call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], if that’s any consolation.
I’ll also suggest Lissy, [name_f]Lise[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lolo[/name_f] as nickname possibilities
Thank you!!! This is very good to know as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is the one nickname I really can’t stand. We will call her [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and hopefully everyone will follow suit but I figure [name_f]Elle[/name_f] might happen too sometimes which I’m good with (just not [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]!
I think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are lovely names and I like [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as nicknames, but like you, I’m just not a fan of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for some reason.
I think [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] will be able to stand on its own without being shortened. I feel that [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is a more natural nickname/short form than [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] in any case. If you don’t want [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to be her name, then it won’t be.
I know a [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] who refuses to answer to [name_f]Becky[/name_f] or [name_f]Becca[/name_f], and an [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] who won’t allow her name to be shortened to [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Livvy[/name_f]. I also know a [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] who dislikes her full name and insists on only being called [name_u]Steph[/name_u]. So I think it usually just comes down to what form of the name you tell people to use.
