You might remember me from a few weeks ago, when I was agonizing over names for our sixth child. Well, my agony has been halved, because we found out we’re having a boy!
The top name on our list right now is [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Leopold[/name]. But it’s the only name on our list, and we need to have backups, and good ones; [name]Maeve[/name] and [name]Sunny[/name] weren’t our top names at all but when the girls arrived they didn’t look like a [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]Hazel[/name] at all. So if this baby doesn’t look like an [name]Oscar[/name], we’re screwed.
We’ve thought about a couple names but can’t use them for various reasons: [name]Theo[/name] (it kind of rhymes with our last name, [name]Monroe[/name]), [name]August[/name] (not strong nor charming enough), [name]Dexter[/name] (our good friends just named their dog [name]Dexter[/name]), [name]Jasper[/name] (my niece is severely infected with the Twilight bug, and I know she, along most of the population under 30, would immediately call us out on it if we used [name]Jasper[/name]), and [name]George[/name] ([name]SIL[/name] used).
We’re looking for a male name that is hipster-esque (we kind of are, but we’re not pretentious nor snobby nor airheads with our half-moon reading glasses-clad noses pointed to the skye–don’t judge us!), charming, debonair, quirky yet age-appropriate and not silly at all. As with [name]Sunny[/name] and [name]Ned[/name]‘s names, a more classic name with a rockin’ nickname would also work quite well.
[name]Felix[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], and [name]Edward[/name] are great. [name]Oscar[/name] is great, too. I’m not personally keen on the idea of another O name, but that’s just me. Here are others:
I love lots of pp’s suggestions, I also wanted to ask to reconsider [name]August[/name]. I love love love this name but DH nixed it. I think the nn [name]Gus[/name] is awesome, would be a good pairing with [name]Ned[/name] (they are going to be grouped together a lot b/c of their ages!). I don’t think it’s too soft at all!
[name]How[/name] funny that you’re thinking about [name]Oscar[/name] [name]Leopold[/name]! What a great name! I think I recall a poster here with a son by that name looking for ideas for sibling names.
Definitely Nameberry approved, then.
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Leopold[/name] is gorgeous, and goes great with your other kids’ similarly lovely names! I also love [name]Theo[/name] & [name]Jasper[/name]. If not, what about:
I just wanted to say, FWIW that I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]August[/name]. I don’t think it’s soft at all! [name]Ned[/name] and [name]Gus[/name] are divine. I wanted to use [name]August[/name] myself, but my surname ends in an “S” sound so it just doesn’t flow.
I wanted to add that I [name]DON[/name]'T think that [name]August[/name] is strong enough to go with your other boys. [name]Just[/name] my opinion though. [name]Oscar[/name] is a good name. I think of “[name]Oscar[/name] the Grouch” and much prefer [name]Jasper[/name]. I don’t connent it with Twilight in my mind, and I’ve read all the books.
I have to say, I [name]LOVE[/name] your children’s names all together! Delicious. [name]Oscar[/name] would fit very nicely with the set, in my opinion. I’m not very good at suggesting “hipster-esque” names, though, so I won’t venture to give an idea list…in mentally naming off your sons, though, “[name]Brewster[/name]” came to mind as a nice fit with the others; not sure why. Maybe it’s totally off / not your style, but I thought I’d mention it.
Another thought - I haven’t read/seen Twilight at all, so I don’t associate [name]Jasper[/name] with the series (and I think it’s very nice!), but since you already have an [name]Edward[/name], I dunno if I’d go for another Twilight-associated name.
i recently heard the nickname [name]Ozzy[/name] with the first name [name]Oscar[/name], which you could perhaps use if he doesn’t look quite like an [name]Oscar[/name].
another name to consider is [name]Ralph[/name]. i think it would be a good fit with the others and such a cute name for a youngest-of-6 baby boy!
