I’m very early into my pregnancy and today I came down sick with a fever - uggh! So my husband and I have been toying with names over the past few weeks. We got to see the heartbeat yesterday (yay!) so we’re feeling more confident this little nugget is going to stick
With that in mind, I want to start fresh looking at names. I don’t know that I have a particular style. I can show you some of the names I was tossing around when we played this game with my last two babies.
Three years ago I was in love with the name [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Now I just feel like I’m over it. It looks like a beautiful, classic name but it’s fallen out of favor with me. Other girl names at that time I liked were [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Leighton[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Liv[/name_f]), [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (nn. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]) - and you can see what’s happened there with the popularity of those last two names. Boys I really struggled with and we ended up naming our first Kell@n [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (mn for my FIL). He’s totally a [name_m]Kellan[/name_m].
Last year when we found out we were having another boy, I was completely set on the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. In fact, my husband, who didn’t like the name at first, ended up falling in love with it over time. We were set…and then about 3-4 weeks before he was born I started having second thoughts. [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] came into the picture and ultimately we went with G@vin [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] (which I love - I think it sounds great as a combo).
As you can see I ended up with two boys with first names that end in -n. I’d actually like to break out of that cycle, especially with boy names. For girls, I am completely hooked on the name [name_f]Wren[/name_f] and I pretty much convinced myself that will the middle name if this is a girl. [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f] has been at the forefront of my mind but, as much as I love it, I wonder if I’m going to go down the same path as last time and change my mind towards the end.
Other girl names that I like:
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Emme[/name_f])
[name_f]Cadence[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Cady[/name_f])
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] (nn. [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]) - could I get away with this one in the US?
Something that could be interesting to me would be finding a way to include the name [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] somehow. [name_m]Even[/name_m] some variation of it would be of interest to me. I had a cousin that I adored growing up by this name that died of leukemia when I was very young. I would love to honor her in some way.
Other than that, I only have two restrictions - no ‘color’ names and no -aiden/-ayden names. Let’s play
