Top 5 was just out of my reach unfortunately, so here I am with a Top 6 of possible names for the Bean!
Key Points:
[ul]
[/ul]
Our Pro Points are in blue, [name]Con[/name] points are in red.
[name]Tyne[/name] ([name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - in honour of partners home town. Often misheard as “Time/[name]Thyme[/name]”.
[name]Macaulay[/name] ([name]Macaulay[/name] [name]Tyne[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - giving the child my old nn of [name]Mac[/name], and partially honouring my surname. Too associated with [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin, and often mis-spelled as [name]MacaulEy[/name] which I like less
[name]Raleigh[/name] ([name]Raleigh[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - we like this because of Sir [name]Walter[/name] [name]Raleigh[/name], and the child will be brought up in [name]Devon[/name] which has strong links with the namesake. Too rhymey with my own name - [name]Hayley[/name]? I dread introducing us as “[name]Hi[/name] I’m [name]Hayley[/name], this is my son [name]Raleigh[/name]”
[name]Georgie[/name] ([name]Georgie[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - in honour of my favourite uncle who passed away last year and had no children of his own, would mean a lot to my family to use this name. Too nicknamey? My partner is a [name]Geordie[/name] (Somebody from Newcastle, [name]England[/name])…too much of a jokey connection there?
[name]Nolan[/name] ([name]Nolan[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - new addition suggested by a [name]Berry[/name], I love Irish names and we like the meaning “Champion”. Not enough meaning to us?
[name]Maclean[/name] ([name]Maclean[/name] [name]Tyne[/name] [name]Henry[/name]) - new addition suggested by [name]Blade[/name]. This is actually my surname, but I had never considered it as a useable name until [name]Blade[/name] suggested it. Not “name” sounding? Weird to give him a name that is still my own surname, as we are not yet married? - Please note: My own surname is pronounced Mc-leen, and we would pronounce his name as mac-layn to make it a bit different…my name is always mispronounced that way anyway so it shouldnt be a problem for him!
Oooh. That’s a list [name]Hayley[/name] the Wonderful!
[name]Tyne[/name]. If people misunderstand, you correct them. [name]Tyne[/name] like the freaking river dude! I love the north, I love the association it has for you. And it is amazing with the middles. [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Glass sounds like he could be a character in a [name]Charles[/name] Dickens novel, the same type as [name]Eugene[/name] or [name]Mortimer[/name] in Our Mutual [name]Friend[/name]. Also has nn possibility [name]Tiny[/name].
[name]Raleigh[/name]. I don’t think it matters that your names would rhyme. I love the namesake and the meaning it holds for you.
[name]Georgie[/name]. It is adoreable on a baby, a toddler, a twelve year old, a handsome 22 year old riding his bike to uni in a tweed blazer. It could even work on a middle aged man, and definitely an old chap. I don’t care about the geordie thing.
[name]Nolan[/name]. It’s beautiful. Watch some [name]Chris[/name] [name]Nolan[/name] movies!
[name]Maclean[/name]. It’s a great name. It would honour your side of the family as well which is great. Would you take mr. Glass’s surname if/when you get married? If you keep your surname it might be odd.
[name]Macaulay[/name]. I love the name, and I’m not familiar with mr. Culkin’s work. If you fear the connection and the pron. issues though…
[name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] doesn’t really have any true cons. [name]Nolan[/name] is a lovely, strong name. I like the use of your surname as a fn, for sure, but not sure about changing the pro. Good luck!
Back to vote for [name]Tyne[/name] again! [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name]. I feel like this is definitely your best option, and I wouldn’t fret about it being misheard. I don’t think it would happen too often. Like someone said on another thread, try the “Starbucks test” and see what happens! I think it is a fabulous, fabulous name, and it has meaning to you as well. [name]Tyne[/name] Gl@ss just rocks, as does [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. Thoughts on the other names:
[name]Macaulay[/name] - I just can’t like this one. Too associated with [name]Macaulay[/name] Culkin for me. If you want [name]Mac[/name], go for [name]Maclean[/name].
[name]Raleigh[/name] - I’m a fan of this one, but I can see that the rhyming might bother you.
[name]Georgie[/name] - I don’t think the [name]Geordie[/name] connection is too much, but I think it won’t age well. Eventually he may end up going by [name]George[/name], and I remember you saying you weren’t such a fan of that name. Did your uncle always go by [name]Georgie[/name]? What was his profession? I feel like if your son wants to become a lawyer or something, [name]Tyne[/name] Gl@ss will sound a lot more professional than [name]Georgie[/name] Gl@ss. Also don’t know if I love the repeated sounds when you just say the first and last name together (and that is what you will be doing most often).
[name]Nolan[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! Very nice, and reminds me of [name]Noah[/name] but it is less popular. If you love it, then I think it has enough meaning for you. Also, correct me if I’m wrong but the middle names have meaning to you don’t they? So at least you will still get that connection in there in the middle.
[name]Maclean[/name] - I think it is name sounding, but it might be a little strange to still be your surname. I have an aunt who never changed her last name when she married and gave it to both of her children as their middle names, but it might be a little much if it is still your surname now and becomes his first name. However, I like the name and love the nn [name]Mac[/name]! Maybe stick it in the middle in one of your combos? [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Maclean[/name], [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name], [name]Georgie[/name] [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] (though I know you said the middles were non-negotiable).
My top 3 would be:
[name]TYNE[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Raleigh[/name]
You have some great combos here! Good luck!
Oooh [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Nolan[/name]! I [name]LOVE[/name] The Prestige and Memento so yippee - a good connection for us! Thanks [name]Ottilie[/name]! (I’d so love to give you a nickname but your name is too damn beautiful, I have to use any excuse to type it lol!)
[name]Do[/name] you really think [name]Maclean[/name] is usable? I [name]LOVE[/name] the idea of it so much…If we ever got married I would take the name Gl@ss, but I’d feel much better about doing so if I had a son named [name]Maclean[/name] hehe!
I wish I was having triplets ---- [name]Tyne[/name], [name]Maclean[/name] & [name]Georgie[/name]…or [name]Nolan[/name] - ok, quads

notcinnamon - thank you for your thoughts!!
lilyflower - Thank you very much for your help! All very valid points you make! My uncle did always go by [name]Georgie[/name] but I think that was largely because his father was [name]George[/name], so I can certainly see your point that he may end up going by [name]George[/name] and I wouldn’t be keen on that at all! Also good point with relation to the profession - my uncle was a self employed caterer so yes, his name was not all too important! I agree that [name]Tyne[/name] Glass has much more potential!
And yes, you’re right that the middle names have meaning to us so perhaps it shouldn’t matter so much that [name]Nolan[/name] doesn’t
If we get married I would change my name to Gl@ss too, and we do intend SOME day lol - but yes, would it be odd in the meantime?! [name]Worth[/name] thinking about!
I like [name]Tyne[/name], and I don’t think it would be misheard too much. I also love the family connection if [name]Georgie[/name], although it’s too nicknamed for my tastes. [name]MacLean[/name] would be wonderful if you change your surname. Not a huge fan of the others. Good luck!
You can absolutely use [name]Maclean[/name], your little bean can rock anything! I understand so that you’d love to use your surname to carry it on in some way. What you could do is: [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] & [name]Raleigh[/name] [name]Georgie[/name] [name]Maclean[/name].
[name]Tyne[/name] is lovely, distinctive and meaningful to you and your partner. The only possible downside is [name]Tyne[/name] Glass sounding like a glassworks in Newcastle.
[name]Macauley[/name] I would cross off the list. I think [name]MacLean[/name] is leaner, more rugged, easier to spell & pronounce, and of course personally meaningful without a single celebrity to sully it.
[name]Raleigh[/name] is handsome and dashing. I don’t think it sounds too close to [name]Hayley[/name] at all-- the long HAY versus the short Rah to start, and even though the ending syllables are the same I think the varied spelling keeps it looking distinct. It’s a distinguished and distinctive name, eye-catching. The only thing I don’t care for is the way [name]Raleigh[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] work, in [name]Raleigh[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Glass.
[name]Georgie[/name]: I think, just as the US had the -aden mega trend, you guys are enduring an -ie tsunami. All of the Alfies, [name]Harrys[/name], Archies, Evies, Ellies, Poppys, etc really blur together, and are going to sound incredibly date-stamped in five years. If you don’t care for [name]George[/name], leave it.
[name]Nolan[/name] is soft, masculine and subtly Irish. It was an inspired suggestion. [name]Nolan[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Glass works very well and it really seems perfect for your family.
[name]Maclean[/name]: I love its rugged masculinity and sweet nn [name]Mac[/name]. I think the varied pronunciation ([name]Mac[/name]-Leen for you versus [name]Mac[/name]-lane for baby) makes it workable, and [name]Maclean[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is a hell of a cool name.
[name]Caroline[/name] - Thank you for your help! I don’t understand why so many people mistake me when I say the name [name]Tyne[/name], it happens often though Maybe its just because its not very common, who knows!
[name]Ottilie[/name] - I love those combos! I think [name]Maclean[/name] would be awesome as this little dude is the first boy my side of the family has seen for 28 years, so there are NO males to carry on the family name!
[name]Blade[/name] - I think you’re right. With your suggestion of [name]Maclean[/name], I think [name]Macaulay[/name] is finally a goner for us! So yay - Top 5 at last! Yes, the old fashioned “ie” names are concerning - I know about a million little Alfies, Charlies, [name]Harrys[/name] and [name]Archie[/name]'s I do fear [name]Georgie[/name] would blend among them!
[name]Nolan[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Gl@ss is wonderful!
With [name]Maclean[/name] - I was thinking if we used this as his first name I would probably drop my fathers name ([name]William[/name]) from the combo as he already has his surname in the mix, so I was thinking of consoling OH by adding [name]Tyne[/name] into the mix instead…what do you think works best?
[name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Tyne[/name] or [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Tyne[/name] [name]Henry[/name]? Is it too many N’s? We could always just keep it at [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Gl@ss?
No no no [name]Hayley[/name]. [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Raleigh[/name] [name]Georgie[/name]. [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name].
If you do though… [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Tyne[/name], but I don’t want you too… what if you have another boy?
Lol! Yeah there is that I think if I used [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Tyne[/name], and I had another boy - I would still go with [name]Tyne[/name] for the next boy.
Its tempting not to use [name]Tyne[/name] as a middle, but I feel bad for OH coz his heart has been set on it since week 10 when he “invented” it lol. And his brother already calls the baby [name]Tyne[/name]! So does my niece actually - she loves the nn [name]Tiny[/name] and says she won’t love the baby unless thats his name, PRESSURE! lol.
I think two sons = [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Tyne[/name], and [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Georgie[/name] OR if [name]Tyne[/name] wins out this time - [name]Tyne[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Raleigh[/name] [name]Georgie[/name] See if I do it that way, you get your wish!
Lol! Shes spirited, thats for sure! She has her heart set on [name]Tyne[/name], she even named her new boy doll [name]Tyne[/name]…
I still think Tinuviel is really cute!
Aww I want my little [name]Malin[/name] [name]Winter[/name]. I also still want [name]Tierney[/name] [name]Dot[/name], so four for me please Be nice if I could get two at once though, since I despise pregnancy
Poor Through the Looking Glass… and What [name]Hayley[/name] Found There. Yeah, pregnancy is something else. Adoption? Lots of cats and dogs? Those are my answers. Although being preggers have given me a lot of nice gifts which I like.
A doll named [name]Tyne[/name], so cute! I love these stories…
I would vote for [name]Nolan[/name], of course! I’m excited it made your top 6! I think the meaning is a great one…my [name]Nolan[/name] is 8 and was recently asking about his name…he was very happy with the meaning. E were out shopping one day and he found a [name]Nike[/name] shirt that said champion on it-he had to have it
[name]Nolan[/name] is by far my favorite if your options. It goes so well with the Mns you have picked out. [name]Tyne[/name] and [name]Georgie[/name] would be second and third choices respectively.
I love [name]Maclean[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Tyne[/name], but it sounds like the baby is already named! The family, and your partner, seem to have really bonded to the name [name]Tyne[/name].
On the British baby name registry, can you see how many MacLeans there were last year?
My vote goes to [name]Nolan[/name]. I’m just not a huge fan of the others. I actually do like [name]Macaulay[/name] but it is way too tied to the Culkins! Good luck!
