I love [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and am considering using it myself. The story has negative aspects, but so do many other mythological names (and Biblical names) that are in use, like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] for example.

Honestly I think the back story rocks. For 6 months of the year she is the goddess of springtime, bringing sunshine and flowers… and for the rest she is queen of the goddamn underworld?? The name is bad ass.

I love it but my mum says it’s pretentious. We live in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and it’s pretty unheard of here.

I mean, how it started aside, [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] definitely has the most stable marriage out of all the gods, so there’s that, haha.

I don’t think she’s a bad role model. A little passive, maybe. On the other hand, I think it would be nice to name your daughter after someone who had such a great bond with their mother.

I think the women in your daughter’s life will be far more influential and important role models than the mythological [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. Not even worth worrying about, in my opinion.

I live in Greece as well!! Athens to be specific Π”ωτη φο”α βλεπω αλλη Ελληνιδα εδω!
I agree that [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is dated here but Persa is cute! You could also use [name_f]Essie[/name_f]
I dont think the mythology thing should concern you at all, I rarely ever think of [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] being a bad person in mythology when I hear the name

You can split hairs over which version of the story makes [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] out to be the most feminist, but like PPs have said, it’s the people she’s surrounded by that will determine her self worth. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] is too lovely of a name to pass up, in my opinion.

I 100% get where you’re coming from, I mean, my favourite name is [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], and I’ve had similar doubts about it before. The things is myths and legends don’t tend to have the happiest of stories anyway, and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]'s definitely isn’t the worst. Unfortunately you can’t always explain why you chose a name to everyone who might question it, but I think as long as you’re sure about the meaning and reasons why you picked it, and maybe someday tell your daughter the significance of her name too, that’s what really matters. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and Proserpine are great names, and it’d be a shame to give them up.

Thank you all for your replies! I appreciate so much.
