Bailey? Can it still be used for a boy?

[name]Hi[/name] I’m new to nameberry

I’m having a boy in [name]June[/name] and I still have no names!!!

I was thinking of the name [name]Bailey[/name]…
[name]Do[/name] you think it could still work for a boy or no???

Thanks! ~ [name]Manda[/name]

I have a friend whose son is named [name]Bailey[/name] and whose daughter is named [name]Riley[/name]…I have known her for several years and still I have to mentally remind myself each time I think of her kids that the boy is [name]Bailey[/name] and the girl is [name]Riley[/name]. So, I think [name]Bailey[/name] is certainly a possible boy name, but in my mind it’s kind of ambiguous these days and I might choose something else if you’re worried about confusing boy/girl associations.

A name like [name]Mason[/name] has a similar sound to me as [name]Bailey[/name] but is undoubtedly masculine.

Good luck to you!

Yes absolutly!! [name]Bailey[/name] is really great for a boy…

I usually prefer unisex names for girls but [name]Bailey[/name] is a liquor to me so I think that makes the name more masculien so I think it works.

Sorry, but no I don’t think it can. I think of it as a girls name.

I think [name]Bailey[/name] works for a boy.

I’m all for unisex names on boys, so I say go for it. The nn [name]Bay[/name] is pretty good, plus I really just like the name. I can’t really think of any reason he would get teased either, I know a boys named [name]Tori[/name] and [name]Kelly[/name], so [name]Bailey[/name] doesn’t seem too far off.

Yes, definitely. I find it far more masculine.

Much better for a boy than a girl.

[name]Bailey[/name] is more of a boys name than a girls name in the UK, although I’ve heard of it on both.

This. I only recently heard of a little girl called [name]Bailey[/name], but I still think of it as a boy’s name. (I’m in the UK.)

I’ve only known one [name]Bailey[/name], my childhood friend- a girl but I believe boys need to take back their names

[name]Bay[/name] is one of my fav boy names but it’s way too short. I’d go with [name]Bailey[/name] or [name]Baylor[/name] (which would sound like [name]Bay[/name]-luh with my Southern accent)

In 2010 3,564 girls were named [name]Bailey[/name] compared with 194 boys. For comparison the most popular name for girls, [name]Isabella[/name], had 22,000+.

I think you have to consider two things:

  1. [name]How[/name] common is [name]Bailey[/name], in your area as a girl’s name
  2. [name]How[/name] much do people perceive [name]Bailey[/name] still as a boy name too.

I think you are somewhat okay on 2, but if you are in a school with 3-4 girl [name]Bailey[/name]'s and 1 boy [name]Bailey[/name] it can be harder to carry.

As a guy named [name]Chelsea[/name], I wouldn’t say it can’t be done, but you have to think about it too. I agree though with others, I think [name]Bay[/name] is quite a masculine nickname.

I’m a 26 year old woman named [name]Bailey[/name] & i [name]LOVE[/name] my name. I absolutely think it works for a boy! I work in a pediatrician’s office & have seen a couple of little boys with the name [name]Bailey[/name] & it’s adorable. Good luck!!!

[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Bailey[/name]!

I would so love to name a future son [name]Bailey[/name], but I have the same misgivings. :frowning: I’ve recently found out that percentage-wise, [name]Bailey[/name] is a lot more popular than nationally (it ranks something like 674 instead of 995, and [name]Bailey[/name] ranks lower in my state for girls, too)–so it might be worth checking out in your area! I purposely set up my combo so that he has lots of options if [name]Bailey[/name] was too girly for him and he was teased too much–[name]Bailey[/name] [name]Elias[/name] [name]Charles[/name]. That way, he could go by [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Leo[/name]/[name]Lee[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Charlie[/name], or even [name]Beck[/name] (from his initials, although [name]Beck[/name] could be kind of girly, too). I think having options like that makes [name]Bailey[/name] much more usable.

[name]Bailey[/name]'s been one of my favorites for nearly 3 years now, so every time someone mentions hearing [name]Bailey[/name] on a boy, I always ask how his name is received… and it seems like it’s really not too bad. I’m sure there could be a freak case, but most of the boy Baileys I’ve heard of have had their names received rather well and weren’t really teased for it. So that’s reassuring.

I can’t tell you a definitive answer, mainly because I haven’t decided for myself, but I do love it for a boy a lot! I would be thrilled beyond words if I ever met a little boy named [name]Bailey[/name].

It’s all girl to me…
