Baker and March for a girl

A friend recently said that she was considering [name]Baker[/name] and [name]March[/name] as middle names for her daughter. [name]Baker[/name] would be after [name]Jordan[/name] [name]Baker[/name] of ‘The Great [name]Gatsby[/name]’ fame, and [name]March[/name] would be after the [name]March[/name] sisters. She’s asked my opinion, and I’m just not sure about it. She really loves the names, whereas I find slightly too masculine (though I must admit that they are growing on me), but I don’t want to tell her that I don’t care for them because I know that she will more than likely scrap them if she gets a negative response. So what do you think?

I’d be interested in hearing her reasoning behind naming a kid after [name]Jordan[/name] [name]Baker[/name].
I think they’re fine, though, especially [name]March[/name].

I actually kind of like [name]March[/name]…

I like [name]March[/name] a lot. They’re both cool middle names.

Since they’re middle names and they both have significance to her, I think they’re absolutely fine. I would be a lot more hesitant if she were thinking about them as first names.

Ditto. While I have only known a boy named [name]Baker[/name], I think anything goes in the middle; lots of parents put surnames in that spot anyway. I actually like [name]March[/name] a lot ([name]April[/name], [name]May[/name], and [name]June[/name] are right in the same vein).

I suppose [name]March[/name] isn’t too bad, but I can’t get on board with [name]Baker[/name]. It seems more like a middle name if anything.

[name]Both[/name] don’t bother me in the middle…though I did just meet a boy with [name]Baker[/name] in the middle (from a long line of bakers actually!) I think [name]Jordan[/name] [name]Baker[/name] makes it feel flapper/chic to her? [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Baker[/name] is an even better namesake imo.

[name]March[/name] actually feels somewhat feminine to me despite the verb march feeling very masculine and militant? I think the [name]Mar[/name]- beginning makes it feel like a [name]Mary[/name] variant.

I think maybe [name]Jordana[/name] or [name]Josephine[/name] (connects to flappery [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Baker[/name] & [name]Jo[/name] [name]March[/name]) might be good suggestions for her?

But I think in the middle it’s fine & it obviously has meaning to her.

I’m in the ‘anything goes’ camp when it comes to middle names. I think [name]March[/name] is cool, and I have it on my boys list. [name]Baker[/name] is nms, but for middle its fine (no different to a mother with the maiden name [name]Baker[/name] giving it to their girl for instance).

As middle names, I think they’re great. I realize they’re both a bit masculine, but I personally feel you can put pretty bold choices in the mn spot and get away with it. I think a little girl with the mn [name]March[/name] after the [name]March[/name] family would be awesome!

Also, [name]Marcheline[/name] might be an alternative if she’s feeling [name]March[/name] is too masculine…

I actually really like [name]March[/name] as a middle name. [name]Baker[/name] is iffy to me even though it’s a middle name. What’s so great about [name]Jordan[/name] [name]Baker[/name]?

For middle names I think both are very usable - I prefer [name]March[/name] over [name]Baker[/name].
I also think that while your friend might be insecure about her choices your ambivalence toward the names shouldn’t change her opinion of it. With both [name]March[/name] and [name]Baker[/name] she will get a mixture of opinions and if a few non-committal or negative responses that change her mind she might not love the names as much as you think she does.
