I just wondered if an eye-catching/controversial title would attract hordes of Berries, ready to protest against the injustice of Bandage being used as a name. [name]Don[/name]'t panic. It’s actually just the (possible) meaning of the name I’m seeking more information about; [name]Thais[/name] or Taide. According to behindthename.com, this is an Ancient Greek name meaning ‘bandage’ (hence the title). So what does everyone think? It would be pronounced ‘tie-ees’ or ‘thie-ees’, I think, but please correct me if I’ve got that completely wrong… Is it usable as a middle? Or a first? What firsts or middles would you pair with it? Thank you!
[name]Thais[/name] is pronounced Tie-ees, as in the opera. It is very pretty but I can only think of the opera connotation. It’s better used as a middle, if at all, in my opinion. [name]How[/name] about [name]Isolde[/name] as a substitute? It has the same sort of feeling to it, only a bit more usable…
Haha! I thought this was either a trick title or someone trolling us! ‘Bandage as a name? Surely not!’
I think [name]Thais[/name] is really pretty and would work as a middle or a first. I’d pair it with something a little plainer. Either go short:
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Colette[/name]
Or long:
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Thais[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
I didn’t think it was a name, but maybe two parents fighting over a name? But the title did get my attention.
I think [name]Thais[/name] sounds lovely, but for me, the meaning/significance is the top priority. I wouldn’t use it personally, but I think it is useable.
@whillemina - Thank you for clarifying the pronunciation - I am notoriously bad at saying names aloud, which has led to some embarrassment upon meeting people in the past… Oh, thank you, I had no idea about the opera (which is unusual; my dad is a complete opera nut), but just looked it up - I do very much like [name]Isolde[/name], but already have [name]Iseult[/name] in one of my combinations. Otherwise, that would be a perfect suggestion - thank you again!
@namesgloriousnames - Haha, I thought that might be the reaction! Ooh, I really really love [name]Thais[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] and [name]Thais[/name] [name]Jane[/name], as well as [name]Thais[/name] [name]Aurelia[/name] and [name]Thais[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] - thank you so much!
@jyoti - No, I think even a troll might think Bandage was a tad too far, haha! I’m glad you think it’s usable though - I also base names mostly on significance, and so [name]Thais[/name] would not be a possibility without family names as middles, certainly. Thank you!
