Barnabas?

I’ve been thinking about [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] a lot today, and I’m wondering what others think of him? (I seem to have a huge penchant for clunky, quite unusual Biblical names–I also have [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m] on my list, and I think [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] would fit right in!)

I’ve been toying around with [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Ian[/name_m]/[name_m]Iain[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [[name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]], and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] for combos, so far. Or even [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? [name_m]Iain[/name_m]/[name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], and [name_u]Grey[/name_u] are family names.

I’m not keen on [name_m]Barney[/name_m], though, and I’m wondering if I could avoid it with [name_m]Ben[/name_m]? Especially for something like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Auden[/name_u]. Somewhere YEARS ago I got the idea stuck in my head that [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m] was a brilliant idea, and I’m hoping it’s not an insane stretch of the imagination!

Anyway. Combo/nn suggestions, and general opinions on [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] would be great! If you’re looking for a sense of style, you can find my full list HERE, although I’d ideally like to not repeat names unless it’s a family name. :stuck_out_tongue:

(And, bonus question, how do you like [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_u]Amory[/name_u], Thatcher, [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], and [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] with my other favorites?)

Thanks, Berries!

I really, really like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]. I know brothers called [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] (both teens) and they wear them so well! (No nns, either, at least not that I’ve heard.) [name_m]Ben[/name_m] could work, I guess, though personally I think there are more interesting nns out there that would also work better.

[name_m]Barnes[/name_m]
[name_u]Barry[/name_u]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_m]Bas[/name_m] / [name_m]Baz[/name_m]
[name_m]Arnie[/name_m]
[name_u]Bobby[/name_u]

I like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] the best out of your combos, especially [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Auden[/name_u].

I want to like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] but I’m not quite there. I do think it’s handsome but it’s a lot of name. I feel the same way about [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]. Dark Shadows was a lousy movie but [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] made the name feel usable.

For a nn, maybe [name_m]Baz[/name_m] or [name_m]Buzz[/name_m]. I don’t like [name_m]Barney[/name_m]

Although [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] is already a lot, I like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. For a shorter combo, I like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Auden[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]

I like Barnabas a lot, though I do prefer Barnaby personally (he’s currently a middle on my shortlist [Hal Barnaby Auden]!). I love the nns Barney/Barnes personally, but I don’t think Ben is that much of a stretch at all! Other nns:
Bo
Bear
B
Abe
Bay

As for middles, my favourites from your options are Barnabas Auden Jack and Barnabas Noah Grey/Nathaniel. Some switches/suggestions for middles… (Sorry if I repeat any of your other favourites!)
Barnabas Noah Jack/Henry
Barnabas Auden Henry
Barnabas Nathaniel Henry/Ian
Barnabas Elias Jude
Barnabas Grier Henry
Barnabas Alexei Caleb
Barnabas Alexander George
Barnabas Eli Philip
Barnabas Jack Harry/Henry
Barnabas Leo Shawn
Barnabas Elijah Vince(nt)
Barnabas Luke Daniel
Barnabas Andrew Thomas
Barnabas William August/Oscar
Barnabas Joseph Oscar/Arthur

(Also, I do think those names fit with your favourites! I especially love Asa.)

Thanks, everyone!

@nat108 - after thinking about it for a couple days, I’m starting to wonder the same about [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] and me. I love the character, I love how quirky the name is, but I’m not sure I can see me with a [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]?

But, ohhh, @morning_glory–[name_m]Barnes[/name_m]! Why have I never thought of [name_m]Barnes[/name_m]? I almost want to skip [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] and go straight to [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] lol. I see the surnamey name part of my heart firing at all cylinders haha. [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] nn [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] is seriously cool! (I also like [name_u]Bay[/name_u] and [name_m]Bas[/name_m], but not to the same degree as [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] or even [name_m]Ben[/name_m]…)

@[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - Thanks for all the suggestions, lovely! I’m pretty adamant about having at least one family name in there, so some of those won’t work, but I do like [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (or even [name_m]Jack[/name_m]?), [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ______, [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] a lot. :stuck_out_tongue:
