[name]Barry[/name] is one of few boy names that I adore. I’m not sure how my husband feels about it, but I would consider it one of my own top three boy name choices. Maybe it’s because of the “teddy bear” imagery, but I just think it sounds so huggable for a little boy, while at the same time can grow up nicely. But is it too dated? Would it be weird? Would he feel like a dork in a classroom of little Jacksons and Masons?
I unfortunately just think of [name]Barry[/name] Manilow.
[name]Do[/name] you like Bareth or any of its variants? You could have your cake and eat it, too, with nick name [name]Barry[/name].
For me this is very dated. [name]Harry[/name] instead?
When I hear [name]Barry[/name] I think of Manilow, Gibbs & White. To me it has a middle aged man feel about it that it hasn’t managed to shake off yet.
I don’t think it’d be weird at all. Maybe [name]Barrett[/name] if you want something more modern?
I don’t think it’s that bad, what with names like [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Walter[/name] coming back into fashion. I like it. I like the idea of [name]Barrett[/name] nn [name]Barry[/name] too.
[name]Perry[/name] is another similar sounding name that I like a lot.
I know of a female [name]Barry[/name] and like it much more for a female.
I really dislike it - so sorry! I love old fashioned and clunky names but [name]Barry[/name] just conjures up images of someone who is a bit hopeless and lacking in personality for me. I am really sorry as I know you love it!
Eh, [name]Barry[/name] is okay…perhaps a bit dated. The idea of using it as a nn for [name]Barrett[/name] is cute.
Maybe for [name]Barnaby[/name] or [name]Barnabas[/name] or [name]Bartholomew[/name], but not [name]Barry[/name] alone I don’t think.
I do think [name]Barry[/name] is more attractive than [name]Barney[/name], but that’s not a very high bar, and I think I may actually - Simpsons or not - prefer [name]Bart[/name] to either.
It wouldn’t be a terrible nickname but as a stand alone name, I don’t like it at all. I really like the suggestions of [name]Barrett[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] with the nickname [name]Barry[/name].
I don’t think it’s that dated. It would be interesting to see a child with this name. It’s nice as a nickname, but it can also stand on its own. I can’t seem to find a variation that I like.
My husband is a barry. It is a dated name but more used in the uk where he is from. It is usable. And he isnt boring! Barrys are very cool people!
