My husband and I already have three daughters, twins [name_f]Anke[/name_f] and [name_m]Heike[/name_m] who are five, and a three year old named Neska, and I am six months pregnant with a boy!
We both really like the name [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m], but, since our daughters all have short names, we think it looks out of place. We like the short form, [name_m]Bas[/name_m], but we prefer the name [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but I don’t think that goes as well and it instantly names me think of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] Stoker.
So, [name_m]Bram[/name_m] or [name_m]Bas[/name_m]? The surname is Jonckheer.
Are you saying [name_m]Bas[/name_m] like the fish, bass? I prefer [name_m]Bram[/name_m] to that. You could maybe try [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and use [name_m]Bram[/name_m] as a nn so that you could avoid [name_m]Bram[/name_m] Stoker references on paper and as he grows up.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] There!
My son’s name is [name_m]Basil[/name_m] - and we call him [name_m]Bas[/name_m] - (rhymes with [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]). [name_m]Just[/name_m] a shorter option for you to consider and still get the nickname you like! Good luck!
I honestly like [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m] the best - but between [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_m]Bas[/name_m], I prefer [name_m]Bram[/name_m]. [name_m]Bas[/name_m] doesn’t feel full enough to me, just looks like a nickname.
If you like [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m], use it. It’s not really very long, and I think it sounds great with your girls.
Dropping the extra ‘a’ would shorten it–[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] ([name_m]Baz[/name_m]) or [name_m]Abram[/name_m] ([name_m]Bram[/name_m]). I like [name_m]Baz[/name_m] or [name_m]Bram[/name_m] over [name_m]Bas[/name_m], and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] over [name_m]Abram[/name_m]. [name_m]Bram[/name_m] & [name_m]Baz[/name_m] are tied.
i think all three options - [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m], [name_m]Bas[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] - go well with your other kids’ names! (and i love Neska!)
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] Stoker was my first association with the name [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but i actually thought it was kind of cool. so to me it wasn’t a negative connotation.
I agree and am going to second the suggestion of [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bas[/name_m] and [name_m]Abram[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m].
I like the longer forms as they feel more substantial.
[name_m]Heike[/name_m] and Neska have 5 letter names so [name_m]Abram[/name_m] wouldn’t be that out of place
However, I like [name_m]Bram[/name_m] better than [name_m]Bas[/name_m]
and [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] better than [name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]!! It so - awesome. If you do go with [name_m]Bas[/name_m], I like the full [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m] rather than [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] (and I don’t think it matters that it’s longer than your daughters names).
If you’re just choosing [name_m]Bas[/name_m] or [name_m]Bram[/name_m] as first name, I think [name_m]Bram[/name_m] looks and sounds the best. [name_m]Bram[/name_m] “looks” like a name whereas [name_m]Bas[/name_m] by itself looks incomplete. [name_m]Bas[/name_m] is missing letters.
If you’re going to choose [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]/[name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m] as a full name, use [name_m]Bas[/name_m] as a nn only.
[name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m] (or [name_m]Bastian[/name_m]) is very pretty and works well with his sisters names.
It is definitely not too long. As much as [name_m]Bastiaan[/name_m] is a bit longer compared to the girls names, [name_m]Bas[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] are shorter (one syllabus) and therefore
don’t fit any better in this regard.
