[name]How[/name] is this pronounced?
I am hoping for eye-SOH-nee, but don’t trust my instincts as I am unfamiliar with Basque names. I only found it listed in a couple of obscure directories.
Anyone?
It’d be like “eye-so-neh”… except the ‘ai’ isn’t quite like “eye”, I just don’t know how to properly explain it. It’s like “ah-ee” in one sound. Its closest English approximation would be ‘eye’, though.
“e” makes and “EH” sound (like a shorter “ay” sound), not “ee” (“i” makes “ee”)
Where did you find Aisone? I’m curious! I lived in the Basque Country and haven’t come across it before.
Someone suggested a few Basque names to me in another thread, so I googled and found a couple of lists!
Not feeling great about the sources :\ I would’ve preferred to find it on behindthename, at least.
Thank you so much for the pronunciation description!! I think I know precisely what you mean about the ai vs. eye sounds. I think with the “ee” sound I must’ve been trying to pronounce it Greek-ly 
I’m not sure the “eh” ending would fly in my social circles. I could push it. Aisone would largely be a route to the nickname Aia, so perhaps it wouldn’t end up being an issue.
Not to hijack but Izarra in Basque is ee-zarr-ah? Or I’ve been very silly this whole time?

Olaia could be a way to get to Aia, too. Actually, Eulàlia nn [name]Laia[/name] is pretty traditionally Catalan (and [name]Laia[/name] is accepted as a name in its own right.)
stripedsocks, I don’t know anyone named Izarra either, nor have I heard it out loud, but I’ve seen it before. It’d be “ee-sah-rra” with the trilled R, so you aren’t far off 
Thank you for the link. I found the very cute Aizeti, which has the added appeal (for me) of being reminiscent of some Aztec favorites.

eye-seh-tee, but I’ve never heard this spoken before. The thing with Basque is that stress is very subtle, and some of it is location-dependent, so I’m not 100% on it, but this is what I think is the most logical pronunciation (I’m not a native Basque-speaker, though.)
