I’ve really enjoyed reading everyone’s opinions on names and would love some advice on my baby due today! I don’t know if it’s boy or girl. My husband is Norwegian so the name needs to work in English and Norwegian and not be too common in either language.
For boys, my top 4 for the moment are:
[name]Bastian[/name]
[name]Kasper[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Lorenz[/name]/[name]Laurens[/name]
Have also considered:
Niklas
[name]Teodor[/name]
Baldur (Norse)
Brage (Norse)
Erlend (Norse)
Sindre (Norse)
[name]Lavrans[/name] (old Norwegian version of [name]Lawrence[/name])
[name]Valdemar[/name] (family name - maybe as middle name?)
For Girls:
[name]Saga[/name] [name]Magdalena[/name] ([name]Saga[/name] is a Norse goddess, MN is a family name)
Embla [name]Magdalena[/name] (Emlba is a figure in Norse mythology - the first woman)
[name]Inez[/name]/[name]Ines[/name] [name]Magdalena[/name] ([name]Ines[/name]/z is a family name)
Many thanks in advance for your advice and opinions!
[name]Just[/name] met a male [name]Loren[/name] our age and his girlfriend was teasing him mercilessly (again) over his name. He was from New Zealand but his name was a source of problems for him in [name]America[/name]. I don’t know if that would apply for your [name]Lorenz[/name]/[name]Laurens[/name].
I wonder if people will think that [name]Bastian[/name] is short for [name]Sebastian[/name]?
I am personally a big fan of [name]Jasper[/name], always thought that name was a nice balance of tradition and nature.
Of the girl names I prefer [name]Ines[/name] [name]Magdalena[/name].
From your list, I like [name]Bastian[/name] and [name]Ines[/name] the most, they seem to be the most accessible names to me. I also like [name]Lorenz[/name]. I have known male [name]Lorens[/name] too and I think the z at the end changes the name enough so it’s not too feminine.
I haven’t read it but did look at the characters from the book. I liked both names [name]Lavrans[/name] and Erlend. I thought [name]Lavrans[/name] might be tricky in English. My husband found Erlend a little plain sounding in Norwegian. [name]Glad[/name] to hear someone else knows the names though!
[name]Bastian[/name] is nice but feels a little incomplete; I prefer it as a nickname for [name]Sebastian[/name]. Of your boys’ names, I think I like [name]Kasper[/name] the best. For girls, [name]Ines[/name] is my favorite by far.
