Bat as a nickname for Bethany

Is that too much of a strange nn? I really adore it.

Further Context: This is meant as a nn for me. I’m 15 and I abhor my name.

I would prefer [name_f]Bet[/name_f]/Bett, but I think [name_m]Bat[/name_m] would be cute!

Honestly, it’s not my favorite.

It could work! I’m not a fan of bats, but it is not a bad nickname.

It’s not my favourite, but I can see it working.

I’m not a fan honestly and I could see peers turning it into a Batty reference. I had a friend named [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] who I knew as Bethy growing up.

Bat is such a cute nn for [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]! If it’s a nickname for you, and you like it, you should definitely use it. I think people will think it’s very cool!

I think [name_m]Bat[/name_m] is really really cute!! I don’t really associate it with the animal or baseball bat. I think more of bat your eyelashes, lol. try it out… if you like it, don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. you’re the one who will be going by the nickname.

Try it out! You could always nix it a day, month or year later if you end up not liking it

Like @may.rose, I prefer [name_f]Bet[/name_f]/Bett, but [name_m]Bat[/name_m] would be nice. I also agree with @Alix2016 that you should try it out.

Bat could work, especially if you like it

[name_m]Bat[/name_m] is sort of cute. It’s not my taste, though. If you like it, use it!

Here are a few other nicknames for [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] that I thought of:

[name_f]Beth[/name_f] (pretty obvious nn)
[name_f]Anny[/name_f] (a bit of a stretch, but it works)
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] (a bit of a stretch)
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (still a bit of a stretch)
Betty
Betsy
Bette

I think of Bat as more of a boy nickname. Like for Bartholomew.

In a post COVID-19 world the word bat has different connotations for me. I keep thinking bat soup!
I prefer [name_f]Bet[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f].

Fellow [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] here! I used to dislike my name, but now I’ve really come around. I’ve only met a few other Bethanys, so it’s somewhat rare, but very recognizable.

One nickname I’ve had that hasn’t been mentioned is [name_m]Benny[/name_m]. That’s what my lil nephew called me when he couldn’t pronounce “th”. I’ve also been called Beany and [name_f]Bee[/name_f].

I agree, I wouldn’t think of [name_m]Bat[/name_m] as a nickname, but [name_f]Bet[/name_f] is cool!
