B names are not my favorite, but I’m planning on using one to honor my grandmother, someone very special to me. Unfortunately she doesn’t have a middle name and I asked for her Hebrew name and it is not much different than her secular name. Help me choose which name to honor her by. Her secular name is [name_f]Bernice[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. Give mine your opinion and other options for uncommon B names!
Options (so far):
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]- her Hebrew name. Nn [name_u]Berry[/name_u]
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f]- ber-nees or bare-uh-nees or Bare-reh-ny-see, nn [name_u]Berry[/name_u]
I quite like [name_f]Beryl[/name_f] and am puzzled why it’s not more popular. A couple other ideas:
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] - or full named [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] - could be pronounced as [name_f]Betty[/name_f] or “[name_f]Bet[/name_f]” like [name_f]Bette[/name_f] Midler
You have several “b” name options which are lovely. Frankly I couldn’t beat what has already been suggested if I tried. Bernadette is my favorite- I love Bernie plus you can get both Berry and Betty out of it.
However my question is if b names aren’t your favourite and a lot that is suggested is very different than the original name, how set are you on the letter B?
Eunice- it’s also Greek and has a similar meaning to Bernice
What about something like Venice or Vera? They don’t start with B but do share several letters
What about a name that can easily be shortened to Betty or Berry. Alberta is the first that comes to mind for Berry and Elizabeth is the obvious choice for betty but I am sure there are tons more.
I am a little bit of an "honor name purist’ so i would go with Bernice or Bernadette, but just wanted to point out different ways to honor. Best of luck
