I am hoping hubby will come around to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for our third daughter, due in [name_u]November[/name_u]. It’s the name of my ailing grandmother who I’m very close to, so it holds a lot of sentimental value; I also love the nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. He’s not wild about the name itself, but acknowledges and understands my attachment to it. Another option, I suppose, is to use it in the middle…though I really want to use it as a first name.
Any advice on how to navigate a naming disagreement like this? We’ve always struggled to name our babies ([name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_m]Jaymes[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_u]Curtis[/name_u], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]) but this one has a personal element for me so it feels even harder to work through.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are both lovely! Does your husband like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] any better? Is he willing to use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] even though he doesn’t like it, or is it important for you both to like the name? Is there a way you could use your grandmother’s middle, maiden or last name instead, or would that just not be the same for you?
What are your feelings on [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]? [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a great combo if you decided to use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] for a middle.
My husband and I have a similar situation, though we aren’t expecting yet so it’s only theoretical for us at this point. I want to name our first daughter [name_f]Mary[/name_f], in part to honor my grandmother. He isn’t a huge fan, but he knows names are very important to me and they aren’t as big of a deal to him, so he’s fine with using [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
Anyway, not sure if any of this helps at all, but congrats and good luck figuring something out!
I’m not sure how helpful this is, but I think both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] are beautiful! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] both names and the NNs [name_f]Bea[/name_f] & [name_f]Liza[/name_f]. [name_f]Liza[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is also cute:-)
You’ve got until [name_u]November[/name_u], so if you’re at a standstill now, I would vote that you take a break from talking about it for a few weeks and mull it over separately.
I’m unclear on how you feel about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and on how opposed your husband is to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as a first name. To me (and this may well not be everyone’s experience, just a possibility), it might feel a bit too intense to him to use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as a first name since your grandmother is currently “ailing” as you say - if I were in your husband’s position there might be too much baggage attached to the name to contemplate using it now even if it was a name I loved. Depending on how things go between now and [name_u]November[/name_u], he may have trouble separating the name from your grandmother and seeing it as his new daughter’s name. For this reason I would suggest using [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] as a middle name, but see how you feel about it all when the baby arrives.
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] sounds great, too. It also brings to mind [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and then [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], all of which sound great to me on their own and with your children’s names.
I like the sound of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] better than the reverse, and even the nn [name_m]EB[/name_m] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. But I’m not wild about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]–might be partially due to me being so attached to the sentimentality of Beatrice and what it means to me. I don’t dislike it, but I don’t love it.
We haven’t talked names in several weeks so I’m not sure if he’d consent to [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] now or not! ”
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] sounds great! If you named her this, you could both get what you want because you could still use [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as a nickname, honour your grandmother and use the names you want.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Beatice and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] are both beautiful. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] all also go amazing together. This is a hard one, but you’ve got a little bit of time until [name_u]November[/name_u]. I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] but [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f].
I love both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I also like the sound of a short middle with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:
I agree both [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are great, so I think you should choose between those when you meet her (if not before). [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is very cute, as is [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f], who you could call [name_f]Bea[/name_f] sometimes. Your grandmother will be honored either way. Best of luck!
I am visiting my Grandma [name_f]Bea[/name_f] this weekend (who lives several hours away) and sitting with her tonight, feeling the baby kicking away inside as we talked and simply were, I just knew–this baby is [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
I’m with you on [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I totally understand the sentimentality behind it and plus it’s a lovely name with a beautiful meaning, how much better can you get that she who brings happiness?
I think that [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a stunning combo! Good luck persuading your stubborn hubby. Mine was pretty stubborn when naming our girl too.
