Baxter?

What do you guys think of the name [name]Baxter[/name]? It’s a name I’ve been loving lately but anyone I mention it to says it sounds like a name for a dog not a human.

Any thoughts on the name? Thanks!

Yeah I kind of like it. It is likely that people will ask if it is a family surname though. I like [name]Baxter[/name] but I’m wondering about the nn “[name]Bax[/name]” - is it inevitable or can you supply a different one? [name]Bax[/name] seems less good. That is my totally unprofessional opinion based on first impression!

I love the name [name]Baxter[/name] but everyone tells me that its for a dog and not a human :frowning: I can see a [name]Baxter[/name] being quarterback of the football team or something very athletic and popular. I think it seems like it would be a fun first name!

I think [name]Baxter[/name] was the name of a cat in a commercial…that’s what pops into my head, anyway. I have a hard time picturing it on a person, particularly a child.

I went to high school with a [name]Baxter[/name], who was quite well adjusted and happy (as far as I could tell). Most people called him by his full name. Perhaps the dog association began with Anchorman? Isn’t his dog [name]Baxter[/name]?

Anyway, it’s not quite my style, but I think it would work fine!

I actually really like it. [name]Baxter[/name] is the dog in Anchorman, but I always thought it was a nod to [name]Ted[/name] [name]Baxter[/name] from the [name]Mary[/name] [name]Tyler[/name] [name]Moore[/name] show.
It’s not a name that I would probably ever use, but I personally love the [name]Ted[/name] [name]Baxter[/name] association.

I had a dog named [name]Baxter[/name] so that’s why I think of a dog, but otherwise, I really don’t see any reason so many people think of dogs with this name. Maybe because sound alike names are popular for dogs (ie - [name]Max[/name], [name]Rex[/name]…)

I really like it though!

I like it, but I don’t love it. For some reason it always reminds me of the Huxtables (particularly [name]Theo[/name])… I don’t know why, though, lol. It’s a bit too surnamey for me.

I know a boy called [name]Baxter[/name]. Spunky, cheeky monkey.

The name is NMS, but it grew on me and it suits him. Some people have commented to me that it sounds like a dog name.
We mainly call him [name]Baxter[/name] but we also call him [name]Bax[/name], Baxman.

I suggested it to my husband as [name]Baxter[/name] was the name of a building on our university campus that held meaning for us. He laughed it off insisting the name was “too weird.” I’m not sure I would have actually done it, but I would love to meet a little [name]Baxter[/name].

Thanks , Berries for your thoughts! I’m torn on this one, I really like it (I even like [name]Bax[/name] as a nn) but already have a [name]Milo[/name], which I’ve been told many times is more common for a dog than a boy. I don’t want to end up with two names like that!

I’ve only heard of animals being named this so I also think it’s too much of a dogs name. Sorry.

maybe [name]Paxton[/name] would be a good alternative if you’re leaning away from [name]Baxter[/name].

[name]Paxton[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]

just a thought…
