I’ve recently fallen in love with the name [name]Bay[/name], but have a few hesitations before adding it to my list-
is it all boy? or do you like it better on a girl?
is it too short? if yes, what are some longer names that could lend itself to nickname [name]Bay[/name]?
Completely unisex! I can see it on either.
Names on my list: Rosebay (f) & [name]Bayard[/name] (m).
[name]Bailey[/name] could have the nn [name]Bay[/name]
I love the suggestion of [name]Bayard[/name]!
To me, it sounds more boyish.
It goes either way for me. I like it a lot for a girl though, like [name]Fay[/name]…it has a simple & old fashioned charm. I like more traditional names on boys.
totally unisex, though I do slightly like it better for girls.
I don’t mind [name]Bay[/name] on it’s own, but I do also like it as a nickname for [name]Elizabeth[/name]
I like it as a nickname or a middle name. It seems to short to stand on its own a first. While it could work as a middle or nickname for either, I prefer it for a boy. One of the male characters on Once Upon a Time is often called Bae (short for Baelfire), so that’s the first thing I think of.
It could be short for:
Bailey
Barnaby
Baylor
Sebastian (bit of a stretch, but it could work)
Beatrice possibly?
Unisex, but probably leaning more toward male. To me it is too incomplete sounding to be used as a full name so i’d go with [name]Bay[/name] as a nickname. Full name options could be:
[name]Bailey[/name]
[name]Bayden[/name]/[name]Baden[/name]
Baynard
Bade
[name]Bayard[/name]
Bayle
I love [name]Bay[/name]! It’s one of my favorite girl names.
I think of it as a girl name, but it could work unisex as well.
It’s so fresh and spunky, yet feels natural and clean and modern.
Unisex and adorable. [name]Love[/name] it.
Unisex, not as a full name. I don’t really like it as a nn (I feel like a cruel person now ), but [name]IMO[/name] it is a great middle. For a lot of long names. [name]Sophronia[/name] [name]Bay[/name] is a combo I’ve played with.
I love the name [name]Bay[/name] for a boy. To me it’s quite masculine. I would quite possibly name my son this, but we already know a really cool [name]Bay[/name]. He has a son named [name]Oak[/name]. Perfect, if you ask me.
I like it better on a girl (: and I don’t think it is too short
It actually makes me think more of a girl, but only because it’s the name of a female character on Switched at Birth on ABC Family. [name]Every[/name] time I hear it, it seems more like a nickname and seems incomplete. I personally would find a longer name and use [name]Bay[/name] as a nickname. I also have a few coworkers who refer to their husbands/boyfriends as “[name]Bay[/name]” rather than saying “[name]Babe[/name],” so this kinda turns me off from the name.
I think it’s better as a middle name personally.
I only first heard this name on the series Switched at Birth, and it’s used as a girls name. [name]Bay[/name] is definitely a unisex name.
I have a [name]Bay[/name] (girl) and I like it for either sex. I didn’t like it as a full name so I spent literally a couple of years before she was born looking for longer versions. I like legitimate names with a long history of use that have never been popular so we eventually went with [name]Bayard[/name], even though it’s a male name. I hated it at first but after I read about [name]Bayard[/name] [name]Rustin[/name], I knew it would be great for her someday to read about his influence in civil/ gay rights and hopefully feel inspired to be that kind of person as well.
In my opinion, there aren’t that many longer options that feel substantial enough but it really comes down to personal preference. There is [name]Baila[/name] which is Hebrew, but for some reason, [name]Bay[/name] seems heavier to me than the longer form so it seems a little backwards. Whatever you choose, [name]Bay[/name] is a great name. Mine is almost 3 and she gets compliments on her name daily!
I think [name]Bay[/name] is a horrible name for a boy- but a beautiful name for a girl.
I don’t think it’s too short at all- short names are wonderful for kids because they will have an easy time spelling it. I would go for a longer, more traditional name for the middle name though.
[name]Bay[/name] [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Bay[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Bay[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]One[/name] of the main characters on Switched At Birth is called [name]Bay[/name]. She’s a girl. That’s the first thing I thought of. It’s not really my style, but I think it’s fine. It seems more feminine to me.
I like it for a boy or a girl. I think it would work as a first name as long as the last name is on the longer side. Also, I read somewhere that [name]Bae[/name] is a Korean name meaning “inspiration”
I’ve only seen it used on a girl, so it feels feminine to me, but saying it out loud, it just feels too incomplete for me. Definitely better as a nickname.
