Be our focus group: Sarah Beth or Sarabeth?

We love the name [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]/Sarabeth as a combination of our baby girl’s grandmothers names, for it’s nod to our southern roots, and because it audibly flows well with our rather hard to pronounce last name which rhymes with “ah-rowdy”. But DH and I can’t decide which way to spell it. [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] as a true double name seems to look better on paper with our last name, but we worry about setting our daughter up for a lifetime of having to correct her name on forms or just being called [name]Sarah[/name]. Using Sarabeth as one word would prevent that, but we wonder if it might be mis-pronounced as “sa-[name]RAY[/name]-beth”? For some reason, the one word version looks more confusing to read when followed by all the vowels in our last name.

[name]Will[/name] you weigh in with your opinion? We are truly torn and need some honest feedback. Oh, and middle name suggestions are more than welcome too. Thank you!

Have you considered hyphenating it as [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name]? I dont think it looks odd at all like this, plus the pronounciation is obvious. If you arent fond of that, i think Sarabeth would be fine, and I doubt most people would have trouble with that.

[name]Sarah[/name] is one of my favorite names and I love its meaning.

Some middle name options:
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Gracelyn[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] [name]Jeanine[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Alexandria[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name]

I think a middle name with three or more syllables would flow nicely, since [name]Sarah[/name] and [name]Beth[/name] are both shorter names.

Best of luck, and [name]Welcome[/name] to nameberry

I too love [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] and would use the hyphened version.

I think the hyphen works best. [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is also great, though there is more of a chance that the [name]Beth[/name] could be dropped. Sarabeth is too much for me. It’s less intuitive, the eye stumbles over it, I feel like hearing “[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]” I would never be inclined to write it out as all one word without prompting.

As for a middle, [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] could work with most anything. It’s so classic and sweet. You could add a note of something more modern, something with more dramatic flair, or you could stick with something with a similar homespun sweetness like [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Susanne[/name], ect.

I’m a traditionalist so I’d favor [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] with the nn [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. If that isn’t an option I’d go with [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name].

I think Sarabeth is best if that’s what you’re going to call her/you don’t want people to think [name]Beth[/name] is her middle name. I can’t imagine it being mispronounced at all, since they’re both such classic names.

I know a Sarabeth and she never had any issues with it. Visually, I like the look of [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] better though.

I like the idea of [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] hyphenated the best.

I prefer [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. You can still call her Sarabeth. Best wishes!

I think you should hyphenate.

It looks a bit funny to me as one name. Not sure why, as I like the name [name]Annabeth[/name]. For some reason Sarabeth looks more like two separate names to me. Maybe it’s just familiarity, but my vote would be for [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name].

I think [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] look better and are less likely to confuse somebody looking at them or trying to write out her name. Also keep in mind that despite what you wish at some point she might decide that she does just want to use [name]Sarah[/name].

[name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] is the most clear and concise way to reach your goal imo. Sarabeth seems to be smushed together and I feel you lose the feeling of the name that is present when they are separate. Double-barrel names aren’t usually my favorite but I find [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] to be very charming and sweet. I think the hyphen may allow for less confusion down the road but if you really don’t like it visually then I’m sure you can make [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] work. Good luck!

If [name]Seraphina[/name] can work…I think Sarabeth can work as a name… [name]Do[/name] you prefer to honor the [name]Sarah[/name] spelling when you separate the name into [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]? I really like the suggestion of [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and calling her [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]…that’d be my personal solution.

I definitely prefer [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. Sarabeth looks ridiculous, imo. Hyphenating it would work but is unnecessary. Lots of little girls have double names. It’s nothing that people haven’t dealt with before.

When I say Sarabeth, there’s a subtle difference in the emphasis as opposed to [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. I don’t like Sarabeth, but [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] is really nice.

I definitely prefer [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name].

Sarahbeth looks squished and is unappealing.

My sister-in-law’s first name is Mary Jane. She’s had problems her whole life. I’d go for either Sarah-Beth or Sarabeth.

Thank you all for your advice!

I would stick with [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. Sarabeth [name]IMO[/name] loses it’s classic timeless vibe when you squish them together.
I am a [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Jean[/name], as a double name, and was called that exclusively until I was around 12.
Going by my personal experience, I would advice you to use [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Beth[/name].
For documents and such I always used [name]Sarah[/name] alone because it was easier, but other than that there were no problems. When I got a bit older [name]Sarah[/name] on it’s own fit me a bit better, which is the only reason I dropped the [name]Jean[/name].
