Hello! We are expecting a baby girl and love the names [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] with the nns [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Bee[/name_f] and [name_f]Beebee[/name_f] (not sure on spelling for that one?).
The only thing I don’t like about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is the nickname [name_f]Trix[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f].
What are your thoughts on [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] vs [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]?
I really like both, but slightly prefer the gentle sound of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] would be gorgeous. I also really like [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
I really love the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f], so that usually inclines me towards [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] where [name_f]Trix[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] will always be a possibility. I also think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] has a nicer, slightly softer, sound to it.
This is my husband’s and my debate. I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] because I don’t like the possibility of [name_f]Trix[/name_f]/[name_f]Trixie[/name_f] and I like the Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f] About Nothing connection. My husband prefers [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] for the cool -x- sound and the [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection.
I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I like that it adds a little bit of edge, though I’m also not a fan of [name_f]Trix[/name_f] or [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] either. I’m sure if she’s always been [name_f]Bee[/name_f]/[name_f]Bea[/name_f] though, that’ll be what she prefers.
Tough choice. I like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] a bit better myself, but I do like the connection to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and the trendy-but-still-classic “x” ending in [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I think it comes down to how much you dislike [name_f]Trix[/name_f]/[name_f]Trixie[/name_f], because I think there is a strong possibility of that nickname being used. If you’d be fine with others using it–or even your daughter using it–as long as you call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f], B.B., or by her full name then I’d say go for it. But if it would bother you to hear your daughter called [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], I’d advise you to go for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
Thanks all! I like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] better and my husband likes [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] slightly better but is fine with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. We also like the nickname Bia (pronounced [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-yah). My husband is Greek and Bia was the goddess of personified spirit and strength in Greek mythology.
What do you think of the nickname Bia for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]? I don’t love that the spelling is different but [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is usually pronounced [name_f]Bee[/name_f] - which I also like as a nickname!
Bia is a wonderful nickname for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]! I love the meaning it has to your husband! There is an I in [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and even without that, I think it would totally work. It fits in with [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f] perfectly, while having its own distinct flair and spunk.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bee[/name_f]/[name_f]Bea[/name_f]/[name_f]BeeBee[/name_f] and Bia! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it
([name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I would toss [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] out there, as well. That would be a really direct way to Bia.)
As a mother of a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], it’s no surprise that I prefer the x ending. Her nn is [name_f]Bea[/name_f]-- she absolutely hates being called [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] and will let anyone who tries to know that!
I absolutely adore both! I’ve also gone back & forth between the two for a long time, but I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I find it slightly more musical, classic, & complete than [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a little more upbeat & whimsical to me than [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. I pronounced [name_f]Bea[/name_f] the same as [name_f]Bee[/name_f] for a long time, but I now read it as [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-uh & I know a lot of people do as well.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has always been my favourite due to some associations I love, and the fact it gives a more quirky, feisty feel that I adore. I personally love [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], but I don’t think it’s inevitable.
I love the nickname Bia and I think it’s very intuitive for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. I actually recently met a woman named Bia (no idea on spelling it if that was her full name, but that’s how she was introduced to me) and thought how lovely it was, even as a full name. But I like it even more as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], that way you get two great names at once!
