So another couple of names being considered for #2 are [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the meaning of them!
My issue lies in nicknames. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is really sweet and the obvious choice, however I have a close friend named [name_u]Baylee[/name_u] and B is her nickname, so that would be a little strange and confusing. We’ve considered Triss (a la Divergent) but it sounds a lot like the word tryst to me and I’m not fond of that. With [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] I think [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is quite cute, but with our older daughter being [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Belle[/name_f] I worry saying them together will sound like Trixiebelle.
Am I being crazy? We love the meaning so much that we’ll at least use one as a middle name (I have [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in my sig currently) but I’d love it as a first if it wouldn’t be too weird.
I think it’s totally fine! Go for it.
@leighmiller Which do you think is totally fine? Or both?
I really love the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (my name is [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] and everyone calls me B!) but if you do not want to confuse, you can always call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f], pronunced “[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-uh/[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-yah”. Not sure if that is your style, but I know someone who does that and it’s very sweet. I also think [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is fine and doesn’t sound too crazy… [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] are both adorable!
I hope this helps a little. Good luck
I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] overall, but with a sister called [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (which is such a soft, pretty, classic name) I’d go with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - I think they have the same feel.
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] “bee” is my favourite nickname, but [name_f]Bea[/name_f] “bee-uh” could work too as pp suggested. For what it’s worth, I think having a close friend and a daughter with the same nn isn’t too big of a deal - it’ll be pretty obvious which one you’re referring to and it’s not like you’re giving your daughter the exact same name as your friend. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a lovely choice either way.
B and [name_f]Bea[/name_f] are different names, ultimately, and [name_f]Bea[/name_f] will grow up and be able to use her nn in her own life.
If you name her [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] you may be surprised by how much you use her full name, because [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] feels familiar and pretty to say, even just casually in passing conversation. It differs from [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] there, because that can be more uncomfortable to say, and I think you’d be more inclined to use nicknames for it.
For what it’s worth, I think that [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is more sophisticated and beautiful [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], although I like both. When reversed, I prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] because it flows better.
The “Trixiebelle” worry comes from overthinking. [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] are perfectly lovely shoftforms together.
(Want to add, just in case, that [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] is such a beautiful name! My favourite combo from your signature to go with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] is [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f].)
I would also go with [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] with sister [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - I know a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] nicknamed Rissy and one who goes by [name_f]Attie[/name_f] if either of those appeal, but otherwise I do like Triss very much. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (bay-uh) could also be an option. Good luck!
I infinitely prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! It’s so much more lively and rich.
Novel nicknames can be:
[name_f]Bea[/name_f] ([name_f]Bee[/name_f]-uh)
[name_f]Beah[/name_f] (clearer spelling)
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
Beattie ([name_f]Bee[/name_f]-uh-dee)
[name_f]Beatta[/name_f] ([name_f]Bee[/name_f]-atta)
[name_f]Attie[/name_f]
Attilie
Atta
Attaline (A stretch, but kinda cute, no?)
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Etty[/name_f]/[name_f]Ettie[/name_f]
Rixie
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
Trixa (a spin on [name_f]Trixie[/name_f])
Thanks for all the opinions so far, keep them coming! What do you think of [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but if you love Trixiebelle, then use [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
@sorceress I hate Trixiebelle. I’m concerned that having an [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f] and a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Trixie[/name_f] will sound like Trixiebelle when introduced together.
@ciottolo I love the suggestion of Rissy and [name_f]Atty[/name_f]!!!
I love the [name_f]Bea[/name_f] nickname it’s a spunky upbeat nickname and gives [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] a more youthful flair. I don’t think it’s an issue having a friend called [name_u]Baylee[/name_u] who shares the same nickname as your [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in fact if it was me I’d find that really sweet and endearing almost like your honouring her. Furthermore [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is quiet a common nickname so it’s not that unusual both [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_u]Baylee[/name_u] share the same nickname it’s the most obvious nickname. If the whole friend thing is a major issue I would use [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], this name is funky and has a cool retro vibe and I think you are being over concerned regarding the whole Trixibelle thing. Finally does [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] need a nickname. I really don’t think nicknames are 100% necessary and also that sometimes people grow into there nicknames and develop with there character. I wouldn’t worry. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is gorgeous and sounds great with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f].
@tori101 Thank you!! I agree [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] definitely doesn’t NEED a nickname, but I know my people and they will nickname her haha, so I just like to establish what it’s going to be beforehand haha.
