Beautiful Blue Herb

Have any of you heard Gentian used as a female name? Jenn-shn is how the internet says to say it. I was thinking it was gent-ian. It’s a passionate blue-colored herb, quite lovely. I love it as a name, though some would be reminded of genitals.

My first thought was genitals, like you mentioned. The sound is nice, although maybe an alternate spelling would be better? like Jenshin or Genshin

I would have also said gen-tee-uhn. It seems much more masculine with that pronunciation and reminds me of Gentry.

It sounds pretty masculine to me and shows up as a masculine name online. I found out that feminine form is Gentiana. Maybe you could consider that?

It’s interesting. I do like the floral and unfrilly feel

As someone who works with botanists regularly, I knew the correct pronunciation of jen-sh/shn (hard to write down!)

I don’t think it’s great as a name - pronunciation and spelling issues, but also it just doesn’t look very nice to my eye at least.

I personally think there’s much nicer flower names out there to be used

although i do think that Genshin would simplify the pronounciation, i think it’s really reminiscent of Genshin Impact!

yeah, I was thinking that too, when I wrote it
