What are some girls names/sibsets that you have seen on TV/Films /Books that you think are worthy of a mention on Nameberry???
Great thread
I think [name]Luna[/name] is one of my favourite literary names. I think its mystical, pretty, and underused.
The recent popularity of The Hunger Games brought a lot of new names to my attention, that I would never have considered before. [name]Cato[/name], [name]Katniss[/name], [name]Seneca[/name], and [name]Gale[/name] sparked my attention, and although these names are greatly linked to the books, they have their own beauty in them too.
Nothing else comes to mind right now but I’ll be sure to respond again if anything else comes to mind
Yes, great thread idea, whriligig!
I am really liking [name]Primrose[/name] with the nn Prim right now, but when I think of more I’ll reply.

I think [name]Seneca[/name] could actually work on a girl. It’s like a mixture of [name]Serena[/name]/[name]Selena[/name] and [name]Nicola[/name], and even though THG character was male it always felt quite feminine to me.
Yeah, [name]Seneca[/name] does have a feminine sense to it.

[name]How[/name] about Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and [name]Fire[/name]? They have some good names, too. My favourite names from there are: Myrcella, [name]Arya[/name], [name]Sandor[/name], [name]Theon[/name] and Cersei.
ETA: Just realised some of them are boys names, lol. That’ll teach me to read the thread title properly. Some other feminine GoT names I like are Sansa, Melisandre, Selyse and Catelyn (CA-tuh-lin).
Ooh!!
I’m also crushing on the classics!
[name]Laura[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Liesl[/name] (sound of music)

I have a cousin named [name]Seneca[/name] (female) who is actually getting teased at school because of [name]Seneca[/name] [name]Crane[/name] from THG!
In [name]Jane[/name] Eyre there was a minor character called Antoinetta (that was her mn which she went by - no wonder lol if that was my middle name I’d asked to be called that).
I’m loving Arrietty right now from the movie Arrietty and the book, The Borrowers.
Oh, yes the borrowers was great!!
LOVING [name]Merida[/name] from Brave (even though I loved it before the mvie)
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Polly[/name] from The Magician’s Nephew.
[name]Amy[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Meg[/name] and [name]Jo[/name] from [name]Little[/name] Women.
I guess I have quite a few of these…
I fell in love with the name [name]Lawrence[/name] from [name]Little[/name] Women the first time I read the book.
I found the name [name]Nola[/name] in the film Match Point.
[name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables keeps me from thinking that [name]Anne[/name] is boring. I also discovered the nn [name]Jem[/name] for [name]James[/name] in this series, and gained a renewed respect for [name]Walter[/name]. Oh, and [name]Cordelia[/name]!
Also…
[name]Lena[/name], [name]Effie[/name] and [name]Tibby[/name] from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants!
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Diana[/name] and [name]Marilla[/name] from “[name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables”
[name]Rose[/name] and [name]Cassandra[/name] from “I Capture the Castle”
[name]Polly[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Jill[/name], and [name]Aravis[/name] from “The Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name]”
[name]Dorothy[/name] from [name]Oz[/name] was my first name crush!
I’ve loved [name]Tess[/name], since reading [name]Tess[/name] of the D’Urbervilles. And I’ve also taken a shine to [name]Cordelia[/name] since reading [name]King[/name] Lear.
Wow!!!Thanks everyone.
From the Hunger Games I like [name]Primrose[/name]. I actually can’t think of any others now. I think my brain has stopped working. From TV I like some of the professional dancers names from Strictly Come Dancing(Like dancing with the stars) like [name]Katya[/name] etc. Probably because they are from foreign countries. In reply to [name]Polly[/name]. I’m not that keen on it but my mum says if she ever has another girl that she would call her [name]Polly[/name].

I love [name]Nola[/name]. I also thought of [name]Matilda[/name] from [name]Roald[/name] Dahl which I loved when I was at Primary School but it is getting too popular now
I’m loving [name]Suzanna[/name] nn [name]Suzy[/name], as in the girl from the new [name]Wes[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] movie Moonrise Kingdom. My new favorite movie of all time. It’s in theaters now and I think everybody should see it! It’s so good!
