Beckett ... Beo/Bee

[name_m]Can[/name_m] anyone help me brake this down.

(Apologies if it is obvious but I want to be sure).

So I understand [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] comes from 2 old [name_f]English[/name_f] words “beo" and "cot” which literally means “bee cottage”.

So my question is does the “[name_u]Beck[/name_u]” part mean “beo” i.e “bee”?

I’m not an expert, but I assume! If you don’t mind we asking, why are you wondering?

Not at all  I was juat kinda trying to work out if the [name_u]Beck[/name_u] part is the qquivalent to “bee” because I love that part as a nature/imagery meaning

Beck means little stream! I had a small search about the etymology of [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] but couldn’t get anything bee related

I would assume that the ck belongs to the “cot” part of the derivation, so you’d have: Be “bee” cket “house”.

Beck does have another lovely nature meaning though: little stream.

You couldn’t? The bee cottage thing is the main thing that comes up everywhere? I do really like little stream too though
