I’m mainly here to vent about morning/afternoon sickness, haha. I have only thrown up once so far, which ironically, happened at night. Anyway, being pregnant is making me an extremely picky eater and I hate it! I have never had a problem with food, have never been picky and people who are picky eaters frustrate me lol so it’s really bothering me that my relationship with food is changing. One day I’ll [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] something and the next I won’t be able to eat it or even the smell of it will make me want to throw up!
Anyone else having or had this problem? Please tell me it’s just the first trimester and I’ll go back to loving food soon!
I’m actually happy to find someone else with erratic cravings and aversions. Everyone I’ve spoken with had similar cravings and aversions throughout their first trimester, but mine seem to change on a daily basis. I’m also a picky eater when I never was before. I have to be if I want to keep anything down! The only things, really, that I’ve been able to consistently eat are bananas and chips and salsa from my local Mexican restaurant.
Today I like light tuna pretty good, but I couldn’t even think about it a couple of days ago. I don’t think I’m getting enough to eat, but my doctor says everything’s okay, so I’ll trust her. This is my first pregnancy and I’m about 8w5d by my best calculations (I won’t have my first prenatal visit until [name_f]Monday[/name_f]), and I’m also hoping this changes after the first semester. I miss liking food.
It’s okay! You’re not being picky by choice, so I don’t think it counts. Eat what you can keep down, and don’t be too hard on yourself.
I was blessed to not have any morning sickness. The the only thing that made me slightly sick was bacon, and it was so sad. A life without bacon – what’s the point? But that went away eventually and I can eat bacon just fine now at 21 weeks!
That’s totally normal. With my first pregnancy it lasted from about 7 or 8 weeks til 5 months…it’s even worse this pregnancy and I’m now 14 weeks.
I’m pretty sure food aversions are far more common than actual vomitting
I didn’t crave anything, apart from things I would normally want, but I went right off a lot of things during my sicky phase (roughly 5-6 weeks to 13 weeks), at the peak of which I was vomiting every other day and feeling gross most of the time. I couldn’t eat nuts for weeks, anything sweet other than fruit or anything fatty was extremely distasteful to me (including most kinds of meat), and tea made me want to vom. It all went away after the sickness cleared up! I’m sure for some unlucky women it lasts the whole pregnancy, but at any rate it won’t be permanent I’m pretty sure. Just go with it, don’t force yourself to eat or even be around stuff if it’s making you gag, try and eat the best diet you feel you can, and don’t feel annoyed with yourself because it’s totally out of your control. It’s all part of the ‘fun’ of pregnancy
