Before TTC (bootcamp!)

DH and I are planning to start this summer. I’ve gone on a multivitamin & folic acid, been trying to exercise and eat right, and will start tracking my BBT and ovulation this next cycle.

(I’m also enjoying sushi and beer–more than usual, in preparation for not having any!)

For those of you who planned to get pregnant, what did you do pre-TTC? Any advice for a first timer?

Definitely take the multivitamin and folic acid, it won’t do any harm to start a little early with those. I started taking folic acid and prenatal vitamins as soon as we started TTC.

I also cut alcohol out completely and made my DH give up smoking, though those aren’t really necessary, just optional.

My biggest tip would be to monitor your cycle as closely as possible, to learn how your body works, but try not to become too obsessed by it.

Good luck, lots of baby dust to you!

Folic acid is most important in the several months prior to conception. Once baby is conceived, that folic acid is needed likely before you even know your pregnant. You can just take a prenatal vitamin which will have the necessary folic acid (800 mcg) as well as what is found in your multi-vit.

I am ttc now and I cut out alcohol around ovulation and through the two week wait. The bottle of wine is opened when my period shows up… The only perk of a negative pregnancy test

Good luck ttc!!! Your a good mommy already for being proactive in the process!

jeeze, I didn’t take any folic acid before I conceived…I hope the bb is alright 0_0

I took quite a few more supplements than you, but I am venturing a guess I am a bit older than you. I needed to prime my ovaries a bit. I also got regular massage, acupuncture, and did a lot of yoga. I cut out gluten, processed foods, pesticides on produce, and hormones in my meat and dairy.

Most important, you need to go out and have fun! Go out drinking and dancing with your girlfriends. Go see live music. Be a little naughty. Take a spontaneous adventure with your husband. [name]Just[/name] live and have fun. When you finally conceive, your life as you know it will be over. You have to live for someone else and put another life ahead of your own. It’s beautiful and amazing, but it can be a shock to realize what you give up to be a mom.

So do the things you need to do to prepare your body for a baby, but do as many things for yourself as you can, and put yourself first while you can. And drink that beer and eat that sushi, because what I wouldn’t give for a large Sapporo and some maguro sashimi right about now…

Good advice and AGH! I forgot you can’t eat sushi while pregnant - although I will probably still have some veggie rolls to quell the cravings

I will definitely start doing the folic acid and tracking my cycle - need to get a big wall calendar or similar. The only thing I am really dreading is having my IUD removed - that thing hurt going in and I’m sure it won’t feel much better leaving, although the pain has been worth it for almost 5 years of worry-free birth control! (And yes I realize the pain pales in comparison to actually delivering a baby, but stilll. :stuck_out_tongue: )

I started taking a prental vitamin, made sure I’d been to the dentist and was all up to date there (suggestion from a hygienist friend), and tried to cut my caffeine intake back to sane.

I already tracked my cycles but did an ovulation predictor kit the month we started just to be sure.

Otherwise, I tried not to overthink/over research to the point I stressed myself out about it. Enjoy this time, your sushi, your beer, and some nice sporadic trips and dates w/ DH. Good luck!!
