Belen nn Billie? do-able?

Thanks to everyone who answered my last post on how to accomplish the nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u] without using a [name_m]William[/name_m] variation!

Someone suggested [name_f]Belinda[/name_f] as well as Belice… To be honest neither are really my cup of tea BUT it did inspire me to the name [name_f]Belen[/name_f] which has been a name that I have liked for quite a while!

I know that this is a spanish name but with my husband being hispanic and the fact that we speak spanish at home I think it works just fine for us!

What do you think??? would [name_f]Belen[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u] work? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it?

here is the pronunciation of [name_f]Belen[/name_f] just in case you are unsure of how to say it…

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Belen[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is a bit stretch (but could work), I prefer just [name_f]Belen[/name_f] without any nn though.

[name_f]Belle[/name_f] makes more sense than [name_u]Billie[/name_u]

As a name lover I think it’s beautiful…

However I went to school with a [name_f]Belen[/name_f] and, it seems, people often mistake you as it sounds as if you’re about to say bell-end. It only takes a school idiot to add a ‘D’ onto the end of [name_f]Belen[/name_f] and make their life hell. The [name_f]Belen[/name_f] I went to school with was severely bullied and renamed ‘bell-end’ from the age of 11 to 18.

I hate discouraging people if they really like a name…but perhaps give it a good thought over! Px

This is exactly what i was thinking. It might only be a problem in the UK, but still not great if she plans to travel.

I think it’s beautiful and interesting. I’ve never heard of it before, and it does feel a tad masculine to me for some reason…maybe because of the similarity to Benin? I’m not quite sure. I like it with the nn [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] could work for it as well.
I’m so so on it.

I’m so sorry, but I have to agree. It may just be my immature mind (!), but bell-end was the immediate association for me also. But apart from that, I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] stems naturally from [name_f]Belen[/name_f], and is a lovely nickname, just as [name_f]Belen[/name_f] is a beautiful name! If only it didn’t have that association…

Didn’t realise bell-end was just an English thing, but it looks as though it might be, so it might not affect your child where you are.

If you’ve liked [name_f]Belen[/name_f] for a long time, go for it. [name_u]Billie[/name_u] isn’t a far cry from it, especially after hearing the pronunciation. Of course you could also just go with [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as the first; that’s no big deal! I’m sad you don’t want any [name_m]William[/name_m] variations ([name_f]Willa[/name_f] is gorgeous and wearable all throughout life, and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] would work as a fun nickname. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] could have also worked, even if its not a [name_m]William[/name_m] variation).

[name_f]Do[/name_f] what your heart tells you!
