Bellamy for a boy? + Poll

Please someone explain to me the appeal of [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] for a boy? To me it looks and sounds like [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] smooshed together and isn’t masculine at all.

How do you feel about [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]?

I think it reads masculine to some because of the show The 100 which had a main character named [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] who was a boy. He was pretty masculine and really worked the name! The only girl [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] I can think of is the actress, [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_m]Young[/name_m].

I agree that it does look very much like a girl name! I think it fits in with other surname names like [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] and [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u], which I’m guessing is the appeal for it to be a boy name.

I only know of the 100 character and he was definitely masculine so it is only a boys name to me. I’ve never heard it on a girl, real or fictional.

Yeah, the only [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] I know is from The 100. I can definitely still see it on a girl, but it leans masculine for me because of that association. And honestly I imagine a lot of people, even if they only watched like an episode or two of the show, will probably only think of The 100 when they hear the name.

Wow I didn’t realize that this name is pretty much from one TV show. I’ve never seen or heard of the show. I’ve only heard of the name on these forums.

It does have some similarity to [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] or [name_m]Laremy[/name_m] I guess.

I really love it for a boy.

Bellamy is completely unisex to me. I’ve never met a [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It sounds a bit feminine, but the first person I think of when I hear the name is [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. I suppose that’s why it’s both for me.

Never met a [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], but I consider it unisex, I know of an Instagram couple who has a daughter named [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! However even than I view it as unisex, honestly either way goes

I think [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] feels masculine to me because it fits into the surname names category and surname names generally lean masculine.

unfortunately the name bellamy is ruined for me because it was my ex’s last name which is a shame because it’s so beautiful. personally i see it more as a girls name.

I love [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], and would love to see it used more! It definitely leans masculine for me, but I can also imagine it on a girl.

I like it on both - Cool and unusual
Also makes me think of [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] from [name_f]Muse[/name_f]

Never seen nor heard of The 100. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was boy when I first came across the name though I was initially pronouncing it wrong in my head. I didn’t notice [name_f]Bella[/name_f] in it until someone later pointed it out. I can see why some people see it as a girl’s name after I saw [name_f]Bella[/name_f] in it but it still really leans boy to me. It just sounds like a boy’s name to me I guess.
