Bellamy

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you find the name [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] more fitting for a boy or girl?

Well I selected the option to add a poll but I must have missed something because it didn’t appear :frowning:

Eh, girl. I know someone who has this as a surname, though, so it’s hard for me to picture it as a first name.

I much prefer it for a boy, but I think it might be more approachable for a girl because of the similar -bella names.

I agree with @ikfly, I think it sounds better on a boy but people would probably expect it to be a girls name because of the popularity of some of the -[name_f]Bella[/name_f] names.

I love this name! I think it sounds good on both, but would unfortunately be really hard for a boy to live with because of the “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]” part.

I think boy. I think if you want a similar name that suits a girl better, go for [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f].

We were actually considering it for a boy, but I feel like I know more girls with this name than boys! I’m ok with some gender bending but wouldn’t want a name that was considerably more common on girls.

I really like [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. I think it sounds much better on a boy, though. Most people would probably expect [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] to be a girl, but I think a boy could pull it off perfectly.

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] is one of those rare names that I have no preference on for gender. I think it would be gorgeous for either gender, and I am personally hoping to use it as a middle one day (it is a family name, and has been used for both genders in my family, the most recent being my great-grandma’s sister, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]).

I think [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] works for both genders. On one hand, it’s [name_f]Bella[/name_f]+[name_f]Amy[/name_f], but, on the other, it reminds me of [name_m]Matt[/name_m] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], so some male credibility, too.

I really like [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. To me, is one of those names that if I saw on paper, I wouldn’t assume male or female… I think it’s truly a name that works for both genders. I don’t really have a preference for male or female, actually. I think it’s a great name for either.

[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] was the surname of the upstairs family on the old Masterpiece Theatre program Upstairs, Downstairs. While it (to me, anyway) doesn’t have a strong gender vibe either way, I think it would be somewhat difficult for a boy because of the [name_u]Bell[/name_u] sound & the y ending, both of which are traditionally female. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my two cents, though.

Hmm that’s though. I can see it as a boy name but at the same time it could work for girls. I guess it is more fitting for girls because it sort of matches those types of names that are becoming more popular for girls plus it has two girl nicknames, [name_u]Bell[/name_u] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f].

I prefer it on a girl, despite what parents intend someone is going to shorten it in some way and I can’t think of a masculine nickname for it.

I’m torn. I immediately have always said boy because of it being a surname. But then now that I’ve seen so many putting the name on little girls or talking about it on girls, because of the [name_f]Bella[/name_f] sound, I assume a baby [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] will be a girl. Maybe it’ll be a new actually unisex name to hit it off.

It feels all girl to me. [name_u]Bell[/name_u] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] crammed together seems like it would be hard for a boy to pull off (at least in the US), despite any historical use.

I quite like it on either gender, but do prefer it on a male.

Honestly, until I started watching The 100, I couldn’t see [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] working on a male at all (as I just saw it as [name_f]Belle[/name_f]/a + [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and couldn’t get past that), but nowadays after seeing the name used on a male character and fitting him well, it seems to work for me more as a male name than a female name. I think [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] for a male feels both handsome and sophisticated, yet fun and somewhat quirky, and I love that.

Girl… [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name, and it gives [name_f]Bella[/name_f] a country tomboy touch, but I still can’t see this working on a boy. :expressionless:

This^ It’s all girl to me.
