My husband’s middle name is [name_u]Ray[/name_u]. I would like to use it as a girl’s name (spelled [name_u]Rae[/name_u]) but I am trying to think of a more creative name than just [name_u]Rae[/name_u]. What do you think of Bellarae? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other “[name_u]Rae[/name_u]” ideas? Thanks!
I think that [name_u]Rae[/name_u] as a first name for a girl is quite creative, and really cute. It’s not popular at all, but it’s a name everyone knows and it would be refreshing on a little girl.
I don’t like Bellarae. It doesn’t sound bad, but it looks clunky and weird. Sorry
If creativity is the only reason you’re trying to combine [name_u]Rae[/name_u] with something else, think again about using [name_u]Rae[/name_u] on its own.

Bellarae is beautiful!

I actually like Bellarae a lot

In Uptown Girls, the girl goes by [name_u]Rae[/name_u] but her full name is [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]. I like the sound of Bellarae but not really the look…
It’s clunky-looking. I think it’s better on its own. It’s a short enough name that you could easily add a second middle name if you didn’t want to use just [name_u]Rae[/name_u]. You could also use a name that has the “ray” sound in it, like [name_u]Rain[/name_u] or [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f].
I like the idea of honouring your husband by using [name_u]Rae[/name_u], but Bellarae doesn’t really work as a smoosh to me. [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is so sweet and girly and frilly, and [name_u]Rae[/name_u] tough and tomboyish, they clash to me.
[name_f]Desiree[/name_f] is a good suggestion for the nickname [name_u]Rae[/name_u]; what about [name_f]Renee[/name_f] or [name_u]Raven[/name_u] as a full name? Or even [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] which has the [name_m]Ra[/name_m]- beginning?
I quite like it, as smoosh names go!
I recently met an [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] nicknamed [name_u]Rae[/name_u].
I also really like Esmeray, which you could also spell Esmerae.
I like it quite a lot!
Why not [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]? I like it, but not as one name
Like [name_f]Katinka[/name_f], I know an [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rae[/name_u], I think that’s a lovely choice.
I also know two other (female) Raes, so I have no problem seeing [name_u]Rae[/name_u] on a girl!
I would prefer [name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] to Bellarae. When I read out Bellarae the middle “a” gets a bit lost, maybe because my mind goes to [name_f]Desiree[/name_f], and it ends up like “Beller-[name_u]Rae[/name_u].”
Bellarae/[name_f]Bella[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] also makes me think of “ballerina”—just to put that out there!
