Beowulf?

DH is a teacher and enjoys literary names. I like unique names and have been leaning toward [name_u]Wolf[/name_u] (or [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] or [name_m]Wolfric[/name_m]). I suggested [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m] today and DH went wild for it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious what other people’s thoughts are? The comments I read say it’s too weird and even pretentious? I think it’s weird but not unfamiliar to people…I hope?

I think it is definitely brave, but I actually like it!

I love it, one of my favourite names. It’s out there for sure, but it’s not hard to say or spell so it’s usable  I’d love to see a little [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m]!

It is a cool name, to be sure, but it could be a tough one to wear irl as it is so closely tied to the epic. I do think it’s technically usable, though very brave. It sounds cool in theory, but I wonder if it’s a bit out-there for everyday wear. :woman_shrugging:t3:
It is definitely not unfamiliar to most people, but that isn’t always a positive. But it depends on how much it would bother you, if at all, to get the constant comments. (Not that people should make comments, and not that you should even care if they do, but it is likely that they will.) If that doesn’t bother you and you both love it, then go for it!

Beowulf is so cool! I love it!

I really like [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m]! I would definitely pair it with a more common middle name though, just to give the kid more options when they’re older.

It’s bold, but kinda cool. Maybe the nickname [name_u]Bay[/name_u] will help make it more accessible? I think it’s powerful and can work.

I also love [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m], but it’s too politically incorrect where I live.

It’s brave & maybe a little weird, but I really like it & think it’s usable! I don’t believe that names can be pretentious, so I don’t think it is

Very brave, perhaps too brave to be usable? I really adore the sound, though!

I like it, it might be brave, but if [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_u]Bo[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Wolf[/name_u] are all the rage why not [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m]? But then I also know people called [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f], [name_m]Lancelot[/name_m] and Manchester

I think its a name only an [name_f]English[/name_f] teacher could love :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. A bit pretentious…

I don’t find it super usable. Maybe as a middle. The other [name_u]Wolf[/name_u] names you listed work a bit better for me.

I know how [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m] is pronounced but I keep hearing “be a [name_u]Wolf[/name_u]” and “bay of [name_u]Wolf[/name_u]” which I don’t really love

Definitely too much for me, but if you want a [name_u]Wolf[/name_u] and your husband is an [name_f]English[/name_f] teacher it seems like a perfect fit!

Love it!

I work in the schools and so does DH. I would assume 2 things about the parents upon hearing the name 1. You are white. 2. You are geeks. Neither of those things are bad things in my book. DH once told me about a kid he worked with named [name_m]Thor[/name_m] and I told him those 2 assumptions about the kid and I was right on both counts.

Can I ask how it’s politically incorrect where you live? [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious.

I’m an [name_f]English[/name_f] teacher and very much appreciate literary names but I do think [name_m]Beowulf[/name_m] is a bit much as a first name. As a middle name I think it sounds fantastic but as a first, I think you’d be saddling your child with questions/mispronunciation etc his whole life.
