Hello! Berries I need your honest opinions, stay with me on this one!
What do you think of the name Sennen for a boy?
We’re hunting for a unique boys name which reflects nature and with a sci-fi/celestial theme (our other favourite boys name is [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]). I like Sennen because it is a Cornish place name (we had our honeymoon in Cornwall), and the place name Sennen means ‘star-gazing’.
Also, Sennen means ‘thousand years’ in Japanese (our Wedding song was Thousand Years by [name_f]Christina[/name_f] [name_f]Perri[/name_f]).
So I would very much welcome your honest opinions, do you like this name? Can you picture a little Sennen?
I also saw Semen at first glance. Saying this, the reason you have chose this name is beautiful and as long as your handwriting is good (so that Sennen written down doesn’t look like Semen), I think you’re good. Lol.
It’s not just a risk. It’s a guarantee that we will not be the first ones to notice it. I bet just about anyone who reads the name will read semen. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wait for middle school/high school. Also what about when he writes it in cursive?
Sennen reminds me of Sennen [name_m]Cove[/name_m] (in Cornwall) so that is very positive for me. I think I would prefer it as a middle name though but that is just personal taste.
I don’t like it. It just doesn’t sound nice to me? Also, when I read the name I initially thought it was a girl’s name and not a boy’s name, I don’t know if that would be a turn off for you (it is for me).
Wow thank you all for such honest feedback! It’s definitely a lot to consider! I would never have in a million years seen the word Semen but I can see its a sticking point! I wonder if it is a British thing that I don’t see it as Semen and as it’s a local place name its easier to pronounce.
I am going to keep it on my list for now as im a little attached to it, but am so glad I asked - Nameberry is such a good sounding board.
Thank you! X
Ps. Unfortunately [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] did not go down too well with my family so am looking at options (still on the list though!)
