Berries who chose their own name

Hey berries! For those of y’all who have changed their names, for whatever reason, what name did you pick out yourself? Why? What significance does it hold for you?

[name_f]My[/name_f] chosen name is [name_u]Fable[/name_u] [name_u]Wynn[/name_u]. There are many reasons why.
[name_u]Fable[/name_u] because many years ago, it was a Dungeons & Dragons character I created. I started using it for usernames because I love it so. I’m also a writer, so it’s fitting that my name would be [name_u]Fable[/name_u]. I like that it’s unique, but recognizable.

[name_u]Wynn[/name_u] because I like how it’s spelled and how it looks. I like that it sounds like “win.” I like that it means “friend.” Also, [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_u]Wynne[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] has had a huge impact on my writing style. She wrote “Howl’s Moving Castle”, which is one of my favorite books of all time. I notice that I end up writing dialogue like her. I opted out of the “e” at the end, however.

As for WHY I changed my name, I’m nonbinary. I like that [name_u]Fable[/name_u] rhymes with masculine [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and feminine [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] is truly gender neutral. I’ve only been using this name since earlier this year, but I’m so in love. I love telling people my name. I’ve been asked how I got such a beautiful name, and I delight in saying, “I picked it out myself.” Figures that I’d end up choosing a new name, being so obsessed with names.

[name_u]Laurence[/name_u] “Laurie”. It doesn’t really hold any significance, I just really like the name and think it suits me.

My name is Jack Séamus. I chose if for myself, and it is my legal name. Well, kind of.

Jack is actually short for my legal first name, Jasper, the long form of which is important to me for religious reasons. And also I just like the name, it suits me better than any other name I tried (and believe me, I tried several). I wanted a more formal first name (which I rarely use, as it turns out) that had a short nickname that people in my area could easily spell and pronounce.

Séamus is an Irish form of James, a family name (we’re Irish-American; my last name is also Irish which helps it flow quite well). I was the only one of my siblings who didn’t really have an honor middle before I changed my name, so when I did, I gave myself one.

I changed my name for a lot of reasons, but chief among them was the fact that I did not like my birth name. It’s not a terrible name, per se, it just didn’t suit me. I always knew I’d change my name someday, even as a kid. And so I did.
