Berry Advice Needed!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries! We’ve decided to try for baby #3 so naturally I’m dreaming about names.
We already have [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f].

For girls, we have a few options, but [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is our front runner. I think a 4-syllable middle like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] would sound good with [name_f]Tess[/name_f]- any suggestions?
Other first name options are [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

For boys, we are so stuck. I like tons of boys names but my stubborn husband likes literally almost nothing. Here are our few options so far:
[name_u]George[/name_u] (honor name; I like it, husband says it’s fuddy-duddy)
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] (both of us like it, neither of us love it)
[name_m]Elvis[/name_m] (husband loves it, I said we could use it as a middle name)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] (we both like it a lot, but it really doesn’t go with our sibset, does it? I see our kids’ names as being very [name_f]Americana[/name_f] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is so [name_u]Irish[/name_u]. Neither of us have [name_u]Irish[/name_u] heritage. He likes it for the [name_m]Huck[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] reference. Is there any way to combine [name_u]Finn[/name_u] with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] without getting put on a “worst sibsets” list?)

I’d love any suggestions or thoughts on both boy and girl names! TIA

I have the exactly opposite opinion - I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is perfect with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]! They are all trendy but not overwhelmingly popular names with a friendly sound! I know two Finns who are both [name_f]English[/name_f] and one who’s American so although the origins are [name_u]Irish[/name_u] I really wouldn’t expect a [name_u]Finn[/name_u] to be [name_u]Irish[/name_u]!

Some other names you may like:
[name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]

[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Truman[/name_m]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Wesley[/name_u]

For your girls, I like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] more than [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]! Some other middles could be [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], etc.

Although I really, really love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] with [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]!

Harriet is great too, and Ruby!

Harriet Ruby or Ruby Harriet would be nice

A few other ideas with W and L: Josie, Opal, Pearl, Imogen, Iris, Matilda, Etta, Beatrix

It’s funny - I know Finn is Irish, but with the Huck Finn ref and the cool, single syllable vibe, Finn has an American vibe! Lincoln, Willa and Finn are fabulous!

You could use Franklin ‘Finn’, Phineas ‘Phin/Finn’ or Finnian ‘Finn’ maybe? Or perhaps the similar alternative Flynn?

A few other ideas with L + W: Fletcher, Donovan, Jude, Jasper, Caspian, Maxwell, Hayes, Ellis, Alban, Auden, Beckett, Tobias

I adore [name_f]Tess[/name_f] with your set, and I don’t think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is as mismatched as you fear. The [name_m]Huck[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] reference is very [name_f]Americana[/name_f], it’s a surname ending in N like [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u], and it has similar popularity to [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u]. I think it’s a nice fit.

I’m always so thrilled to see someone considering [name_f]Tess[/name_f]! Here’s some 4 syllable ideas -

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Harrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Liviana[/name_f] (maybe 3 syllables depending on PN)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] (ditto)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasie[/name_f] / [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] (I usually use the 5 syllable PN, but I know many people say an-a-sta-zha. I’m just going to stop commenting about different pronunciations giving different syllables now!!)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Antonina[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Audriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Luciana[/name_f]

On [name_u]Finn[/name_u]: I’m in the UK - [name_u]England[/name_u], specifically. I hear [name_u]Finn[/name_u] more on NB than on children here
I believe 70 ish % of users hail from [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u], hence [name_u]Finn[/name_u] feels quite American to me! However, if it’s mostly used to honour [name_u]Irish[/name_u] heritage, then I get where you are coming from. I just thought I’d offer another different perspective. In addition, I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] because they all share that short i sound. It really makes them a cohesive set, to me.

@Greyblue I love your suggestions of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] or [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], thanks!

@tallemaja Thanks for the great suggestions. I love [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] as a middle, plus it’s my grandma’s name

@somemelodioussonnet thank you! I’m starting to feel like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would be a great fit too

@EdgeOfTheMeadow thanks for the UK perspective and for pointing out that all the names share an “i” sound, I hadn’t thought of that

@Casea33 thank you! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you think so

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your naming style! [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] are so lovely! [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is top on our list for a girl.

I think [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is very sweet. What about [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f], or [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]?

I LOVE [name_f]Tess[/name_f], but what about [name_u]Esme[/name_u] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is very cool! [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_m]Hank[/name_m]. It reminds me of [name_u]Finn[/name_u], but a bit more [name_f]Americana[/name_f] sounding with [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u].

What about [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_m]Otis[/name_m], or [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]?

First, I love the names [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f].

Girls names: I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f]! I also think it feels more fresh than [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], which is also a great name. I like the 4-syllable middle name idea, and here are my favorites:
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
FWIW: I like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] a lot more than [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].

[name_m]Boy[/name_m] names: I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] sounds AMAZING with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] & [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is [name_u]Irish[/name_u], I see it as a very American-friendly name, especially since the spelling/pronunciation is so straightforward, which is not true of all [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names.
For middle names with [name_u]Finn[/name_u], here are some that I like, but I think you have lots of options here:
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Elvis[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Cassian[/name_m]

Firstly wishing you all the best with your TTC journey

Onto names I think [name_f]Tess[/name_f] works really well with your sibling set. I like the idea of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] that’s so classic. I think [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] would all also work nicely with [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. However from all your options my favourite is definitely [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]! I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] she’s so sparkly, full of fun and is spunky. I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] feels so fashionable with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] & [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I love the idea of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] :gem:

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite for boys is [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! I actually think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] works wonders in your sibling set he’s fashionable and feels very cool with [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] & [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] definitely has the same vibe and doesn’t feel overwhelmingly [name_u]Irish[/name_u] at all. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] feels very universal.

You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_u]Lincoln[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and…

Tess is lovely, as is Harriet (Harriet Tubman - great American historical figure) and both of the middle options. Other suggestions for which I can think of an Americana link: Alexandra, Isabella, Eleanor.

Finn is a fabulous name (I’m biased). I think it fits fine. But George is also an excellent option and I do like the first president association. Other ideas to continue the Americana theme: Samuel (Sam) :us::heart:, Benjamin, Franklin , Jackson, Harrison, Arlo :blue_heart:. Samuel George/Finn, Arlo George, Jackson Finn, Harrison Finn…

[name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f], such great names!

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] is wonderful, so short and yet so strong. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] are wonderful, Your names are quite historical and literary - [name_m]Abe[/name_m] [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Cather[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f] of the D’Urbervilles, [name_f]My[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] by [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Cather[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] are also great names, but I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]. Fresh and strong.

Some male ideas: [name_m]Gordon[/name_m] (Byron’s name)
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Derek[/name_m]
[name_m]Denzel[/name_m]
[name_m]Dalton[/name_m] (like Trumbo)

I actually like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] with your current names and [name_f]Tess[/name_f] as it is literary too. I think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] are great together!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] & [name_f]Willa[/name_f] are a darling sibling set.

Here are my thoughts for a possible #3:

Tess-I love love love [name_f]Tess[/name_f]! It’s so sweet & lovable & a little sporty. It feels vintage yet fresh. It’s easy to say & spell but not at all common. It goes really nicely with your kids’ names too. I wouldn’t do [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] is good. I also like…

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]

Ruby-I go back & fourth on [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I like the look and sound of it, but something about it feels off. [name_f]My[/name_f] good friend’s step-mom is named this, and I think it’s just a strong association for me. She’s a perfectly nice lady too, but she so strongly doesn’t feel like a [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] to me that I’m all confused about it!

Harriet-I like this in theory, because it’s strong & vintage & interesting. But I think it’s a bit clunky for me. I love the nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] though. I think just [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] would be cute!

A few girl suggestions that you may like-

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]

[name_f]Cora[/name_f]

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

[name_u]Fern[/name_u]

[name_f]Greta[/name_f]

[name_u]Hazel[/name_u]

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Maple[/name_f]

[name_f]May[/name_f]

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Maple[/name_f] & [name_u]Fern[/name_u] are my favorites for you.

Boys:

George-I think it’s cute in theory, but I get the fuddy-duddy thing. It’s hard to picture on a regular person. Which is weird, because I know a perfectly sweet pre-teen named this, and it’s fine. But I do feel like now that he’s older it fits him less than when he was a chubby little toddler. It’s almost like it’s a nice name for a little tyke or an old man.

Desmond-I like it a lot, & think it’s great with your sibling set. But if you don’t love it, you don’t love it. It does have the cool nn [name_m]Dex[/name_m] if that makes you like it more.

Elvis-I just don’t think you could use this one realistically as a fn, but a middle is fine.

Finn-Finn is perfect for you! I adore [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. It’s been one of my favorites forever. It is [name_u]Irish[/name_u], but feels really connected to the super [name_f]Americana[/name_f] [name_m]Huck[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

A few boy suggestions-

Arthur-this feels a bit like [name_u]George[/name_u], but I still like it.

[name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]

[name_m]Clark[/name_m]

[name_u]Everett[/name_u]

[name_m]Otis[/name_m]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks all!

@bjoy [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is a GREAT name, I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

@Audreymb thank you! I’m glad you all don’t think [name_u]Finn[/name_u] would mess up our sibset.

@Jbevie [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is a gorgeous option! And I would definitely consider [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_m]Otis[/name_m] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] but we have friends who have used those names.

@KJ1020 Thank you! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is such a classic and pretty middle

@namer_gamer Thanks so much for your thoughts! I like all the middle names you’ve suggested. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is also high on my list!

@tori101 Thank you! Yeah, daydreaming about names before I get knocked up feels like it could be bad luck, but that’s what name lovers do, right? I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] too and it’s definitely in the running.

@EJK1720 thank you! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a little [name_u]Finn[/name_u]? I love [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] too, but we have a friend who used that name.

@Harvest-Endellion Ha, thank you for noticing the “My Antonia” connection! I love the idea of continuing our accidental Nebraska theme

@MichelleM thanks so much for your reflections! I didn’t make the connection about [name_f]Tess[/name_f] being a nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so that’s good to know. And I feel the same way about [name_u]George[/name_u]- it’s easier to picture on a little boy or old man.

I do also like Greyblue’s suggestion of using [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_u]Franklin[/name_u]. [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] [name_u]George[/name_u].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] so much
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is :star_struck::star_struck::star_struck:

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nn for [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is my favorite boy suggestion!

Good luck
