Best cultural names you've ever heard?

One of my besties is Hindu & her name is [name_f]Shivani (shee-vahn-ee)[/name_f], nn Vani. I think her name is beautiful! What about you? What names like this have you heard?

Note: Did I mention that Vani is a fraternal twin? Her sister’s name is SHivana, & I assume that they call her [name_f]Vana[/name_f] but I don’t know her very well, soo…

Bumping this.

Boomp!

I love [name_f]Indian[/name_f] names! I visited a Hindu temple a while back, & there was a couple there with their little daughter. She had about the most beautiful name I had ever heard at the time. I can’t remember what it was though, only that it started with the letter V.

To me, every name is a cultural name whether [name_f]Indian[/name_f] or Scottish or Japanese or African or [name_u]French[/name_u]. It’s kind of like accents, we all have them whether we know it or not.

Pretty much this! There are very few names if any at all that strike me as having no identificable culture.

That said, some names I love from cultures that do not happen to be my own include (but are very much not limited to, I love so many!):

Is a ‘cultural name’ just a non-[name_f]English[/name_f] name?

I really love the name [name_f]Diya[/name_f]. I know it from a character who was [name_f]Indian[/name_f], but I’m pretty sure it’s a name in some other cultures as well.
If I had the ancestry to back it up Saori would be one of my favourite girls’ names. Other Japanese names I like are [name_f]Chihiro[/name_f] (any gender), Yuno, [name_f]Nanami[/name_f], Ryuji, Tsukasa (any gender), Kayo, Himiko, Michiru and Yukari.
I also like a lot of Hawaiian names like [name_f]Lilo[/name_f], [name_u]Noe[/name_u], [name_f]Noelani[/name_f], [name_f]Lokelani[/name_f].
And finally the Greenlandic [name_f]Pipaluk[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivalo[/name_f]!
