Where I live, in [name]Ontario[/name], the name [name]Elizabeth[/name] is far less common than it is elsewhere. I have only met a handful of Elizabeths, none were under the age of 30 and they all go by the nn [name]Liz[/name] or [name]Lizzie[/name]. Hubby and I have considered using the name [name]Elizabeth[/name], but I would like to use [name]Beth[/name] as a nn instead of [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzie[/name]. [name]Beth[/name] sounds sweet and fresh to me because I have never met anybody that goes by it. According to Nameberry [name]Beth[/name] is dated. I don’t agree with that, and was just curious what other people might think. So, in your opinion, is [name]Beth[/name] dated and what do you think of it? Thanks!
I don’t think [name]Beth[/name] is dated, well, not nowadays, I think you’ve yet to stumble upon a [name]Beth[/name]. It’s a very sweet nickname, I also like [name]Bethany[/name]…I think [name]Beth[/name] even sounds fresh, to some ears, well, perhaps not fresh, but it’s not overused.
I thin [name]Beth[/name] is beautiful, not dated at all!
[name]Beth[/name] is wonderful by itself. I would love to meet a little [name]Beth[/name]. So pretty, sweet, fresh, yet down-to earth and friendly. I don’t think its dated. It’s ripe for a comeback.
I also like [name]Beth[/name]. I think it’s one of the best nicknames for [name]Elizabeth[/name] and I love it on it’s own. It sounds sweet and gentle to me
I love [name]Beth[/name], and am so glad to see someone consider it! I think it’s sweet, simple and understated but still beautiful. And would work well on a newborn and a grown woman
I think its very classic.
Thanks so much for the opinions. [name]Beth[/name] does not sound dated to me at all and I just wondered if it is because of where I live or if others felt the same way!
I don’t think of it as dated at all - [name]Elizabeth[/name] and its variants are just never going to get old. [name]Beth[/name] is great!
My mother goes by [name]Beth[/name] so it is familiar to me, but I have only ever met one other actual [name]Beth[/name] (a friend’s mom). It is for that reason that my middle name is [name]Elizabeth[/name] which I know is something I share with many other girls my age… But in school I actually only knew one [name]Bethany[/name] who went by [name]Bethany[/name] and one [name]Elizabeth[/name] who went by [name]Betsy[/name] so I don’t think the name [name]Beth[/name] is all that common or dated. It’s a very sweet and 100% [name]Little[/name] Women choice in my opinion. =]
Sorry in my earlier post today, I stated that [name]Beth[/name] does sound dated, but I forgot the “not” in that sentence. Haha, I fixed it now anyways.
If [name]Beth[/name] was stop using as a name and a nickname, while ago, then is dated. That’s definition.
But I think [name]Beth[/name] as stand alone name is much fresher, better and lovelier than [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I like [name]Beth[/name].
I think it would be a wonderful and refreshing choice. My step sister is a [name]Beth[/name] - my step mom couldn’t bear the possibility of nn [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzie[/name] so she didn’t name her [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I’ve always loved it and it suits her so perfectly. My middle is [name]Elizabeth[/name] and most of the family has always affectionately called me [name]Tara[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. So I might be biased, I suppose
@laethy - I agree that [name]Beth[/name] could be considered dated by some because it is no longer used much anymore, but some dated names become fresh again. To me [name]Beth[/name] is fresh sounding and I was curious if people agreed with Nameberry and consider it dated or if they feel the same way I do.
I’ve never met a [name]Beth[/name]. Most [name]Elizabeth[/name]'s I know go by [name]Ellie[/name] or occasionally [name]Lizzy[/name]. I really like it, actually!
I really love [name]Beth[/name]. It’s simple, classic, and sweet. I’m not a fan of [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzie[/name], etc. but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Beth[/name].
I don’t think [name]Beth[/name] is dated. It’s a better nickname [name]IMO[/name] than [name]Liz[/name]/[name]Lizzie[/name].
I don’t think it’s any more dated than [name]Liz[/name]. I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] has so many great nn options & [name]Beth[/name] feels classic/neutral. [name]Betty[/name] or [name]Birdie[/name] or Bidi feel more current & hipstery but [name]Beth[/name] is sweet imo.
The great thing about this name is it’s versatile so if she favors some other nn or the full she can use that when she’s older
I think [name]Beth[/name] is dated. I really don’t feel it has any sort of pretty connotation. However, [name]Elizabeth[/name] is great and I think there are plenty of other wonderful nicknames for this name.
I know two [name]Beth[/name]'s one is an [name]Elizabeth[/name] and one is a [name]Bethany[/name]. They are both high school age. I really like the name [name]Beth[/name]. It is not dated by any means.
