We’re going with the nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f], and the only full name option DH has approved of is [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] (I’ve been through them all with him: [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], Betony, etc.). We have a niece named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Lizzy[/name_f]) so that’s definitely out for us. I haven’t brought [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] up in quite a long time and thought I would mention it again since I’m still not 100% on board with [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] even though I think it’s a fine name.
Which do you prefer? MN will be [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], so [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. I get that the flow of BG is so much nicer, but I’m not overly concerned about that.
I love both [name_f]Lisette[/name_f] and [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] but DH really wants to use [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and those are probably too much of a stretch. I’m already having trouble explaining to family that we’re using [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] if it’s a boy.
I really like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] I can’t picture on a grown woman in the business world.
While I sort of love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], I agree with Brigid16. I can’t picture on a grown woman. I can see a little girl but from teen-like 50 is weird. That could be solved with [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or even [name_f]Beth[/name_f] from [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] though.
As far as combos, I prefer [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] because of the flow and because I just like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] that little bit more than [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f].
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] was the childhood nn of the present [name_f]Queen[/name_f]. Her younger sister [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] couldn’t say her name and it came out as “[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]”. This name is forever stuck in childhood. Now if it was [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f], I could get behind it. Have you considered adding the “h” at the end of it? [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] are two of the smooshes I love. You can still use the nn [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. As it is, I will have to go with [name_f]Bethany[/name_f].
I vote for [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]; better flow, and [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] just sounds so nickname-y, plus it’ll be mistaken for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] a million times.
[name_f]Love[/name_f], love, love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]! [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is gorgeous, as well, and I do love it, but I love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], and would be so happy to see it used. I like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] fairly equally for combos.
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] is sweet, but I agree that it’s kind of childish and I don’t think it sounds great out loud. Other [name_f]Betty[/name_f] names I like are [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Isabetta[/name_f], Lisabetta and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]! [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] is a long-time favorite of mine. [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] is adorable, yes, but it kinda sounds like a nickname-y and childish. I can’t picture an older woman named [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] - where as I can easily imagine a older [name_f]Bethany[/name_f].
[name_f]Isabetta[/name_f] is pretty, but we lost a newborn niece a few years ago due to heart problems and her name was [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. Might be a little too painful for my [name_m]BIL[/name_m] and [name_m]SIL[/name_m]. I really like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] as well, but we have a niece named [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and my [name_m]SIL[/name_m] is [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. This baby will have 40 first cousins (and counting!) in addition to numerous aunts and uncles that we see regularly so it’s a little challenging to find a name not already in use or too similar. Gotta love big families!
I imagine we’ll stick with [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], it’s just never been a name to really grab me like the many others on my list. All in the name of compromise, I guess. I’m actually very happy with our choice in boy name, so we’ll just have to wait and see which we get to use! Thanks berries.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]! [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is sweet. Not a fan of [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]…sounds incomplete or something to me. But maybe that’s just my lack of experience w/ the name.
From your originial choices I prefer Lillibet A LOT. I do have a difficult time imagining it on an adult but i just don’t like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]. (I wish I could explain why but it just hits somewhere between boring me and being very irritating.) Since it’s not a name that has really grabbed you I would stay away from it. You could also just go with [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. I hear [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and I think of [name_f]Bette[/name_f] [name_m]Davis[/name_m], [name_f]Bette[/name_f] Midler and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] White. All three are pretty great fore-runners for this nn gone fn. You really should choose something you love.
I love the idea of [name_f]Isabetta[/name_f]. And if you and your hubby like the name and feel comfortable with the association you could let your [name_m]BIL[/name_m] and [name_m]SIL[/name_m] know in advanced that this is the name you choose. It would be a great way to honor your niece and a great gift to her parents to know that part of her spirit (or at least the spirit of her name) can live on in her cousin.
I love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] so that name would be my vote. I don’t have the same problems with seeing the name on an adult… [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is an adult name isn’t [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] a mix of [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
I also second the suggestion of [name_f]Isabetta[/name_f]
