Betsy?

Ugh, I wrote this whole post, and then my phone crapped out, so let’s try this again.

I am currently crushing hard on the name [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], probably due to my recent love of Breaking Bad (no spoilers, I’m only on season 4!) and the [name_u]Michael[/name_u] J [name_m]Fox[/name_m] show - both with the lovely [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] [name_m]Brandt[/name_m].

I find it too insubstantial as a standalone name, so I’d like to find a longer name to use with [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nickname. I am not a fan of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], which I know would be the obvious choice and DH hates [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] so it’s out too.

I like [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], especially with all of the nickname options it affords, if she dislikes or feels she’s grown out of [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] ([name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f]…) but I feel like the DH will veto it because it’s a little more unusual. Help?

I think you can use [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nickname for just about any “beth” or “bet” name name.

[name_f]Bethia[/name_f] – though not sure it makes sense to shorten this one, I think this so pretty.
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] / [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] – actually I don’t find this name unusual at all. Maybe an underused variation, but not out-there.
[name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f] / [name_f]Lisbet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lisabeth[/name_f] / [name_f]Lisabet[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabetha[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabetta[/name_f]

Oooh [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]! I hadn’t even thought of that. I adore that name, and it has multiple nickname options as well!

Ooh does [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] work with [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nickname?!

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to meet a [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Betsy[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] I prefer [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] on it’s own though.

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]! So much. I think it is so adorable. Boyfriend (aka name crusher :frowning: ) doesn’t like it.

Given your above dislikes, I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a great alternative  I also like [name_f]Bette[/name_f] (pronounced just like [name_f]Bet[/name_f]).

My husband’s cousin’s wife is called [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]. I always assumed she was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but when we got their wedding invitation I found out her first name is actually [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. It’s not a traditional nickname for it, but I think it works, like an alternative to [name_f]Becky[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] works great as a nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

There is also the lovely [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] - beautiful name and works great for [name_f]Betsey[/name_f] x

[name_f]Betsy[/name_f] is a super cute name; its really unique and quirky!

I always thought [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] was a beautiful name, and I always liked the idea of [name_f]Bette[/name_f] or [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] as a nickname.

[name_f]Betsy[/name_f] totally works a nn for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! Or MAYBE [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]…Bitty…[name_f]Betty[/name_f]…[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]?? [name_f]Betty[/name_f] would work as a nn for either (which is my preference, though [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] is adorable too).
