This is kind of a follow up to my middle name thread. We are decided on [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] for DD2 (DD1 is [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]) but we are deciding middle name. Narrowed pretty much to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. Over 70% of Nameberry voters agreed with me that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] flows better. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is a bit choppy to my ears/eyes. But DH and I love the name [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and it was actually a contender for first name…so I’m wondering if I should go with the more flow-y, elegant name or if I should just go with what we like. This is 100% our last child so I’d hate to never use [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]…but I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as well so idk! Thoughts? My first daughter’s full name is rarely used so I’m wondering if we should forget flow and use then name we like better. Or is it better for her to have an elegant name that flows?
I don’t find [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] to be too choppy at all. I think it’s quite beautiful. You should go for it!
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] flows well imo - it feels bouncy and cheery I’d go with the one you really love
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] flows beautifully!
I think it sounds like by far the best choice for you — it’s the name you love most, which is enough reason on its own, but also it’s further from [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. To me, [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are a little bit repetitive.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] doesn’t sound choppy to me at all. And, it’s pretty clear from the way you talk about it that it really is the one! Go for it. I also agree with pp that [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are too repetitive. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is great because it has the same feel as [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but with it’s own unique spin. It goes well with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] without feeling matchy-matchy. It’s beautiful.
Thank you so much, everyone! I feel better about it…I agree [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are similar, in fact we even considered [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as a first name for #2 but thought it was too close. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as a middle name, you’re right, it’s still very close!
I don’t think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] sounds bad per se, just seems weird since the names have the same number of letters and there’s kind of a pause somewhere in there, I can’t put my finger on it! But it’s not like it’s horrible, just maybe not as flowy as some.
I think we’ll go for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]…ah what would I do without this site! Helped me name my first daughter too haha.
I actually like the flow of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] better. I voted for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] in your pole because you said it was a family name and sounded like it might be more meaningful to you. But I really like the [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] combo and it matches well with [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (spunky little french names).
I actually think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] flows way better! And I am always in favor of going with a name you love first!
I personally like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] better than [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. I believe you had mentioned that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be honoring a grandmother? Is it a situation where people would be hurt if you didn’t use [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]? I personally feel like you should go with what you love and if [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is what you love than go for it! Good for you that you actually have a name that you love, I still have a ways to go on that!
Sorry if I muddied the waters with the family name thing! [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f] is my grandma’s name and we’re very close, but there’s no expectation of naming the baby after her. In fact, we named DD1 (my grandma’s first great-grandchild) [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] in order to get “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” as a nickname (my grandma goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]). My grandma didn’t seem too moved! And the baby seemed more like an [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] so it stuck. This time, I considered [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] because we never used [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and I like it a lot, but DH said we couldn’t have an [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] because what if they both want [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] someday? So I figured maybe middle name so I could officially honor my grandma. But there’s no expectation, it is a special name for me obviously but DH doesn’t love it and truthfully if it weren’t my grandma’s name, it wouldn’t have been on our list at all. So while I’m sad not to officially use the name, I really do love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and so does DH. So it feels right, especially since several people have said they don’t feel it’s too choppy. Thank you all so much!
I would say go with [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], it feels like you have already committed to it [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is amazing!
I actually prefer the flow of [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]! With [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] ending in a vowel, a middle that starts with a consonant sounds neater and more distinct to me.
And it seems like you love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] more, so go for it!
I personally think you’ve already made a nod to your grandma by using [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for your first daughter, and if she wasn’t fussed, she might not feel all that strongly about you using [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] for this girl either.
I don’t think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as a middle is too close to [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] though, it’s not like she’d go by [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] anyways. While I and most Berries wouldn’t do it, I could even see lots of people thinking [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] work fine as first names for sisters.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] sounds so lovely and bouncy and [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would sound better with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] (i.e. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]).
If anyone sees this…does [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] look better?
Definitely go with the name you love more. But for what it’s worth, I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] flows perfectly well.
Use the name you like better.
In this kind of situation, always go with the name you love, that you can’t bear to never use. I actually prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] anyway. I think it has a romantic vibe, while [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] makes the name feel very serious.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]! Go with the name you love!
Although both spellings are beautiful, I personally think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] looks better as the Names both match in size and look neat and tidy in a good way! Both your Daughters’ Names are lovely! All the very best!
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is really pretty
