[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_u]Allie[/name_u]! I knew a girl named [name_u]Allie[/name_u] and the name always makes me think of someone nice and fun and bubbly like her.
I prefer [name_u]Allie[/name_u]! 
Are they both only as a nickname for the proper name?

Oh this was so hard! I love [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and adore [name_u]Allie[/name_u]! Both cute names - I ultimately went with [name_u]Allie[/name_u] but love [name_f]Katie[/name_f] just as much

As someone who had the nn [name_f]Katie[/name_f] forced upon her by family and hates the name, I strongly suggest you use a full name so that she has options. It sucks that they like to call me [name_f]Katie[/name_f] against my wishes, but at least with everyone else, I can find what actually suits me.
Same goes for [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. If you don’t like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], go for [name_f]Alana[/name_f], [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f], [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f], etc…
As for strictly the question of which nn I prefer, obviously [name_u]Allie[/name_u] over [name_f]Katie[/name_f]…but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] over [name_u]Allie[/name_u].
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. I love the option of a more formal name, even if she always goes by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f].
[name_u]Allie[/name_u] for me! [name_m]Just[/name_m] seems that tad little bit less common than [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. You see I know three [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s and not one [name_u]Allie[/name_u] I also think [name_u]Allie[/name_u] is just WOW!
I have a name that have never had a nickname, and “having options” is a luxury and not a necessity for me… in fact it’s preferred! [name_f]Katie[/name_f] could go by [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is she absolutely hates it, or [name_u]Allie[/name_u] could go by [name_m]Al[/name_m]… I just love [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_u]Allie[/name_u] as full names themselves

The name [name_u]Allison[/name_u] has actually been growing on me lately (thanks to a character I love) so I like that with the nn [name_u]Allie[/name_u]!
however, I don’t think [name_u]Allie[/name_u] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f] technically need a longer full name. like other posters have said, it would give her more options later on in life but it’s not necessary.
I much prefer [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to either [name_f]Katie[/name_f] or [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. but I’ve known a lot of Allies/[name_f]Allys[/name_f] in my life, so I voted for [name_f]Katie[/name_f] (as I’ve only known one or two!)
Also, I really really love [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] nn [name_u]Allie[/name_u]. I think that’s so beautiful and sweet!

They’re both pretty common names, so it’s interesting to see how people pick based on which one they hear the most. I think I know just as many [name_u]Allie[/name_u]'s and [name_f]Katie[/name_f]'s so either way it’s fine, but looks like [name_f]Katie[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is preferred so far!
