As a huge Middle Earth fan, I have long considered using Hobbit names Peregrin (nn Pippin) or Meriadoc (nn Merry) for a future son.
I decided to do some research into other Hobbit names (just for fun!). What do you think? Any of these you would use? (Tolkien fan, or not)
The female names are obviously much more wearable…

Now, to the names!
GIRLS
Adaldrida - A bit of a tongue-twister for me.

Celandine - I don’t know about this one
[name_f]Diamond[/name_f] - Doesn’t sound very name-like to me

[name_f]Eglantine[/name_f] - I like this one, but I don’t think it’s really usable
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] - I like this one, but I find it too attached to the gypsy and Mexican soap-operas

[name_f]Lalia[/name_f] - I like it okay
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] - Like it, very nice
Lobelia - has a nice sound, though the Sackville-Bagginses don’t deserve a child named after them
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it
[name_f]Mimosa[/name_f] - [name_f]Every[/name_f] cow (the animal) I’ve ever known has been called either [name_f]Mimosa[/name_f] or [name_f]Estrella[/name_f], so I’d have to say no
[name_f]Mirabella[/name_f] - Very pretty
[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] - Nice, very common

[name_m]Otto[/name_m] - Perfectly usable
[name_m]Paladin[/name_m] - Gamers will surely recognise this one
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love, though I prefer it with an “e” at the end

Samwise - Really like, a nice alternative to nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u]
[name_m]Sancho[/name_m] - Panza? [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know if people will remember him from [name_m]Don[/name_m] [name_m]Quixote[/name_m], but it’s all that comes to my mind
Saradoc - Sounds a bit feminine to me. Must be the [name_f]Sara[/name_f] beggining
Tolman - Usable
Wilimar - A nice way to get to [name_m]Will[/name_m] if you don’t want to use [name_m]William[/name_m] (or [name_m]Willard[/name_m])
I think maybe the girl names are more usable because they are basically flowers and gems. Had a lot of fun in this one
@rainierlover - as nla says I was specifically listing names of hobbits, not other races from Middle [name_f]Earth[/name_f]. I do love [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] too!
I think my favourite Hobbit names are:
Amaranth(a), [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and [name_f]Primula[/name_f]
Fredegar, Isembard, Meriadoc, [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m], Rudigar and Samwise
I was born in [name_u]Bristol[/name_u], UK where engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel did some of his greatest work, so the name Isembard reminds me of him, rather than a hobbit. Isambard Kingdom Brunel - Wikipedia
