Bible baby names help!

Hello all!

My husband and I are coming up with a list of names… We’re not sure if it’s a boy or girl… And we need help with ideas! We’ve got a few things we want to stick with:

  1. we want it to be a bible name!

  2. we don’t want it to be too popular of a name. Something that people can still spell and read but not one that will have multiple other kids with the same name in their class!

A couple ideas that we’ve tossed around:
Girls: [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]

Boys: [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m] (even though it’s getting to be popular), [name_m]Peter[/name_m]

Any ideas for us?
Thanks!!

Some of my personal favorites are:
Boys:
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] (means “son of comfort”, which I think is lovely)
[name_u]Jericho[/name_u]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]

Girls:
[name_f]Keziah[/name_f]
[name_f]Jemimah[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Talitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamar[/name_f]

I like your ideas of [name_m]Amos[/name_m] (even though everyone tells me it sounds like “anus”, I still like it!) and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

From your lists, I like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] for a girl and [name_m]Moses[/name_m] for a boy. [name_m]Amos[/name_m] is a name that I always want to like but its meaning prevents me from doing so. And, I have never thought of the potential tease point with “anus.”

There are so many options for a less common Biblical name, especially for a son. I am not sure if you and your husband prefer proper names or if places etc are ok. I also do not know what is popular where you live or among the circles that you mix in. But, in addition to what you have, here are some Bible names that have the potential to be less popular:

  • GIRLS -
    [name_f]Davida[/name_f]

    [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
    [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
    [name_f]Moriah[/name_f]
    [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
    [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]

    [name_m]Zebulun[/name_m]
    [name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m]

Thanks for your suggestions! At this point we are leaning toward [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] for a girl… I’m a third generation with the middle name [name_f]Sue[/name_f], so I wanted to represent that but didn’t necessarily want to use [name_f]Sue[/name_f] as a middle. My husbands middle name is [name_u]Jo[/name_u], as is my sisters… Both spelled the same way. Does [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] work together? Or any suggestions on incorporating [name_u]Jo[/name_u] so that the girls name represents both my middle name and my husbands? And we’re still stuck on a boy favorite… Although we really liked the suggestion of [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] nn [name_f]Susie[/name_f] and Laz, go together or not?? Thanks again for all your help!

I love all your girls’ names and I really like [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m].

My only other suggestions are [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] and [name_u]Asa[/name_u].
Personally, I think [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] sound find together, and so do [name_f]Susie[/name_f] and Laz (alhough [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] and [name_f]Susie[/name_f] sounds almost comically incongruous.)

So sorry for repeats, but this list reminded me of my own (esp. the girls!), so I thought I’d share some of the other Biblical names on my lists.

Girls:
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
and [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]

Boys:
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
and [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]

I know a lot of those are pretty popular, but it might get the ball rolling a bit. All of the girls you mentioned are pretty high on my list, especially [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f], and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] has always been one of my favorites!

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] are both stunning (they are two of my all time favourite names, so I am a little biased). They are all lovely, but my favourites from the boys list are [name_m]Moses[/name_m] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m].

We are always complimented on our daughter [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]'s name. I think [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] would pair well with most of the more uncommon Bible names that were suggested to you.
