Biblical Brother for Gabriel

We’re not dead set on using a biblical name for this baby, but do find ourselves drawn to lots of biblical names (and our girl choice at the moment is [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]).

What do you like with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]?

Ideas we’ve kicked around include:

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] – too…heavy? I’m having a hard time picturing it on a little boy.
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]

Names we like but that don’t work:

[name_m]Peter[/name_m] – not with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]!
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m] – can’t have an [name_m]Abe[/name_m] and a [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]!
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] – last name is [name_u]Kim[/name_u] so it slurs badly
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] – DH’s name. I actually love it, but I don’t love the idea of having a [name_m]Jr[/name_m].
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] – too close to [name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] – love it but hate [name_m]Ben[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m] – my cousin just used it
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] – I don’t want a G theme

My husband likes [name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] but I’m not feeling either. I like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m], but he detests both.

I like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] ([name_u]Sam[/name_u]) and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] ([name_m]Nate[/name_m]) but is it weird to use another L-ending name?

Thanks!

I like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (unsure how to spell the first). I do not think it is weird to use the same ending. I noticed, only in hind site, that all my parents first 5 grandchildren ended in Y. [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Heidy[/name_f], [name_u]Andy[/name_u] (he was actually [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]), And then Storey. After that…oddly…they all ended in N … [name_m]Grayson[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].

Really, I do not think anyone ever noticed but me.

I like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], would also consider [name_m]Eli[/name_m] to go with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m]. I would probably avoid [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], a bit sing-songy/matchy with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]. Not a total deal breaker if you absolutely love on, but you have lots of other great options.

My first thought was [name_m]Asher[/name_m], bummer than your hubby doesn’t like it.

Off of your list, I love [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and I think it fits well with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].
I also think you could still use [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. I wouldn’t use it with a brother named [name_m]Simon[/name_m], but it would be okay with a dad named [name_m]Simon[/name_m], in my opinion.

Others:
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]

[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]

From your lis I like
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] - I really like this with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], I know a baby [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and I feel this has a lighter sound than that so I don’t find it too heavy. If you have a hard time picturing it on a baby google “baby [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] 1st birthday” and you will see tons of cute little baby Isaiahs (that was what I did when I couldn’t picture [name_m]Bram[/name_m] on a baby and now my image of it has totally changed!)
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]

how about-

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] (combines [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] & [name_m]Jonah[/name_m])
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]

I love biblical boy’s names, and of your list I really like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] would be my favourite!

Have you thought about [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]? It’s one of my favourites!

Thanks for all of the ideas! [name_m]Will[/name_m] discuss these with DH

My [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]'s brothers names are [name_m]Justin[/name_m] and [name_m]Nikodemus[/name_m]. If we were to have another son his name would be [name_m]Israel[/name_m]. Probably doesn’t really help but figured I’d post anyway.

I’ve always loved loved loved sibset of [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]. [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] and [name_m]Zeke[/name_m].

With [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] I like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] from your list.
You mentioned [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] and said that it wouldn’t work cause of [name_m]Abe[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] but what if you used [name_m]Abram[/name_m]?
This name comes with the nickname option of [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and I have to say that it is one of my all time favorites!
[name_m]Gabe[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m]?

Our son’s name is [name_u]Jericho[/name_u] which isn’t heard very often, and we are pregnant with baby #3. I really like the name [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], we’d call him [name_m]Zeke[/name_m]. I also love [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]!

Your lists are very good!

When I think of [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] – particularly when the nickname “[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]” is employed – I think handsome, popular, easy-going, athletic.

The most hardcore biblical names {i.e. [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]} may be too buttoned-up next to [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].

The most popular biblical names {i.e. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]} may be too ordinary next to [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m].

Usable or not, those biblical names on your lists that feel just right are:

[name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m].

Perhaps these additional ideas hit the mark, as well?:

[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]

Sorry for any repeats!

What about…

[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m]
[name_m]Moses[/name_m]
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]

[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]

I love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] but hate [name_m]Ben[/name_m] too! [name_m]Benji[/name_m]?
And maybe use [name_m]Simon[/name_m] as a middle name? I loves [name_m]Simon[/name_m] as well. [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] too! <3 Also, I don’t think Gabriel and Samuel sound too close. I like them together & there is also Samson (maybe too close to Simon?).
Gabriel James & Elijah Sage (Gabe & Eli)
Gabriel & Caleb
Gabriel & Alexander (Alex & Gabe)
Gabriel & Joshua (Josh & Gabe)
Gabriel & Lucas (Gabe & Luke)
Gabriel & Noah
Gabriel & Reuben
Gabriel & Phineas (Gabe & Phin/Finn
Gabriel & Julian (Gabe & Jules)
Gabriel & Ephraim

[name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]? Both were archangels

This really sums up how I feel about these names – thank you!

DH and I talked more tonight and he really really loves [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]…I noticed you have it in your signature, can you help me love it? I don’t think it fits great with [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] but I’m willing to consider it since he loves it so much. Or maybe as a middle?
