Biblical Names

My husband and I are finally pregnant after two years of trying and of course I’ve started looking at names. SO is picking out the FN and I’m making a list for him. So far we have:

[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]

Are there any other that I should add to the list?

I realize biblical names are fairly popular but we’re trying to avoid the really popular ones and the really strange ones. Although I did throw in a few strange ones with some hope SO likes them and of course I kept the popular ones because if we fall in love with it we won’t care the popularity.

Thanks in advance
[name]Ashley[/name]

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

You might want to add [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Joel[/name], and [name]Seth[/name] to the list. I also love [name]Mark[/name] as a mn.

Congratulations! I love Bible names. These are my favorites from your list:

[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name] (also love [name]Jonas[/name]!)
[name]Joshua[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Judah[/name] (although I prefer just [name]Jude[/name])
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]

So I love a lot. lol. [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Daniel[/name], and [name]Joshua[/name] are my favorites, though. They are pretty popular, but I just love their stories. I think [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], and [name]Judah[/name] are fabulous, too, and fit in pretty well with your sons, if I remember correctly ([name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Zachariah[/name]?).

What about:

[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Cornelius[/name] (maybe as a MN? The story of [name]Peter[/name] and [name]Cornelius[/name] is pretty cool!)
Joash (sort of weird, lol, but I was just thinking in church this weekend about how normal Joash could be! He was a great king at the beginning, and I think it’d be kind of cool for the son of a [name]Joseph[/name] or an [name]Ashley[/name]. I was thinking for me, lol, but I think it could work for you, too. He could go by [name]Joe[/name]/[name]Joey[/name] or [name]Ash[/name], so why couldn’t it be usable, especially if [name]Josiah[/name] is, and Joash and [name]Josiah[/name] were often compared to each other, since they were both young kings?)
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Jared[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Barnabas[/name]/[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] the story of [name]Ruth[/name] and [name]Boaz[/name], and [name]Boaz[/name] nn [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name] is so cool!)
[name]Elisha[/name]
[name]Ephraim[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name] (not my favorite, but I did love the story, growing up!)
[name]Jeremiah[/name]/[name]Jeremy[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name] (the son of the man who bore [name]Jesus[/name]’ cross! which I assume you know, since you have [name]Alexander[/name] on your list. :))
[name]Simeon[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Theophilus[/name]

Good luck!

My nephews cousin is Zebidiah and friends babies are [name]Emmanuel[/name], [name]Josiah[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name]!

My absolute favourites of yours that are on my own lists:

[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Eleazar[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Hezekiah[/name] ([name]Love[/name] the NN [name]Zeke[/name] for this one)
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Judah[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Nathanael[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]

These are the ones I love the absolute best.

Some of these are unusuable for me personally but I find all of these likable enough as names:
[name]Aaron[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Israel[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Jedidiah[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Mordecai[/name]
[name]Moses[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]

Some of the others I find a bit trendy or I know too many - like [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Joshua[/name] - or are perfectly pleasant and classic but don’t do much for me, like [name]Timothy[/name]. I will say a few of them I only like with alternate spellings/pronunciations, like [name]Nehemiah[/name] and [name]Abram[/name] where I prefer the Hebrew spelling and pronunciation of Nehemya and [name]Avram[/name].

Names that are not on your list but are pretty mainsteam and not difficult:
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Saul[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name]/[name]Reuven[/name]
[name]Dan[/name], as in the tribe, seperate from [name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name] which is a seperate Biblical name from [name]Nathanael[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]

Weirder ones I just happen to like, like I like [name]Hezekiah[/name] and so on:
[name]Lazarus[/name] (but you have [name]Eleazer[/name] and they are related)
[name]Menashe[/name]
[name]Emmanuel[/name] - But I admittedly hate [name]Manny[/name] as a nickname.
[name]Hanan[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my granddad’s names. Is the male equivalent of [name]Hannah[/name]. Might possibly sound like a cut down version of [name]Jonathan[/name] or [name]Nathan[/name] because it has a similar word in it.
[name]Jethro[/name] - sort of straddling the familiar/weird line.
[name]Zebulon[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Jabez[/name]

[name]Titus[/name]! Maybe you didn’t include it in your list because you find it too weird, but we named our son [name]Titus[/name] and we get a lot of compliments (especially from guys).

I like :

[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Elias[/name](my favorite)
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name](my hubby’s name
[name]Levi[/name](almost named our son [name]Levi[/name] [name]Jamison[/name])

I made a list of Biblical names to use as middle names for my sons and some of them you might consider weird but they sound neat and have great meanings. I’ll just give you my list and you can disregard them if you don’t like them.

[name]Azariah[/name]- whom the [name]Lord[/name] helps
[name]Amariah[/name]- God has promised
Amaziah- strengthened by God
Amasiah-burden of God, carried by God
[name]Abiah[/name]-God is my Father
[name]Asher[/name]-happy and blessed
[name]Azriel[/name]-God is my help
Azaliah-God has reserved
[name]Dathan[/name]-a well, fountain
Eleasah-God has made
Hananiah-God has favored
[name]Mishael[/name]-who is like God?
Kenath- possession

I have a soft spot for [name]Jethro[/name], but I realize it’s pretty far out there and has some strong pop culture associations which you may or may not care for. However, just on sound alone, I think it is pretty awesome.

You don’t have a lot of place names and that’s fine, but if you are sort of open to them, [name]Jericho[/name] is a pretty cool one in my opinion.

[name]Joseph[/name]? Fairly common but less popular than you might think, and I know you say you’re avoiding popular but [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] are on there, so I’m not sure how strongly you mean that.

[name]Michael[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name]?

Eliachim is one I really like that I know is clunky and difficult, but does have the handy nickname [name]Eli[/name].

[name]Lazar[/name]/[name]Lazarus[/name]?
[name]Nicodemus[/name]?

Good luck!

I just realized [name]Jesse[/name] is nowhere to be seen, and I love [name]Jesse[/name].
