Biblical Place Names for Girls?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

[name_f][/name_f]

I was just thinking lately that there’s a fair amount of Biblical place names that work for boys (Jericho, [name_m]Israel[/name_m], [name_m]Canaan[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Gilead[/name_m] (although currently not very usable given the popularity of The Handmaid’s Tale, I know), etc., etc.) but much less for girls. [name_f][/name_f] I can think of a couple:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Galilee[/name_f] (could go either way, though, imo)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Havilah[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eden[/name_f] (again, could go either way)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Cana[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Bethany[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Can[/name_m] you think of any others that would work? [name_f][/name_f] I think some of the [name_f]Beth[/name_f] places could work (like [name_f]Bethel[/name_f] and [name_f]Bethesda[/name_f], etc.), but just wondering if any of you have thought of some I’ve missed.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks, berries!

I love [name_f]Havilah[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Bethlehem[/name_f] could work too!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Damascus[/name_m], but feels more masculine to me for some reason.
[name_f][/name_f]Gethsemane I’ve seen used, but that’s definitely for a brave namer!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judea[/name_m] has a lovely sound.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nazareth[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f]Phoenicia, maybe?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Samaria[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sinai[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zion[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Zorah[/name_f]

I have a female friend named [name_m]Izrael[/name_m] “Izzy” and another friend whose granddaughter’s name is Israella. I think that one is so pretty. I also like [name_m]Nazareth[/name_m] and Nazarene for a girl.

Thank you everyone!

@columbiacharm[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- hey girl! [name_f][/name_f] I get so excited when I see you around here, I used to love reading your posts back when I was more active! [name_f][/name_f] I don’t think you actually went anywhere; I was just much more active several years ago lol. [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_f]Bethlehem[/name_f] in a way; I considered [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Bethlehem[/name_f] a while back… [name_f][/name_f] it does feel very placey though! [name_f][/name_f] And yes, I definitely forgot Gethsemane; [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Gethsemane [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my current [name_f]Liv[/name_f] combo! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Sinai[/name_f] is interesting; it has potential! [name_f][/name_f] How do you say her? [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] church has always said SYE-nee-EYE which can’t possibly be right, but that pronunciation doesn’t sound very namey to me lol. [name_f][/name_f] I am intrigued by Zorah; I like the [name_f]Zora[/name_f] spelling more, but I do love the name.

[name_f][/name_f]

@Maria_Bennett[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- thank you! [name_f][/name_f] I used to love [name_f]Jerusha[/name_f], which I suppose is somehow etymologically related to [name_m]Jerusalem[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f] I love Gethsemane too, thanks for reminding me of her!

[name_f][/name_f]

@TiffanyS[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- thank you! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Olivet[/name_f], forgot about her. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] feels more masculine than feminine to me, my first introduction to the name was on a Civil War medic turned nurse who was big and burly and very masculine who was in a series of novels I read in high school, so it’s hard for me to see it on a girl, but it is a very cool Bible place name!

[name_f][/name_f]

@miloowen[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- thank you! [name_f][/name_f] I forgot all about Aviv/Aviva [name_f][/name_f]- I didn’t really remember it in Scripture. [name_f][/name_f] Is there a story in the Torah or Tanakh that takes place in Tel [name_m]Aviv[/name_m]?

[name_f][/name_f]

@benton_s_mama[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Ahhh, thanks girl! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve been crushing on Israella the past couple months, I don’t know why I didn’t think of her! [name_f][/name_f] I love the idea of Israella! [name_f][/name_f] I just wish I could find a combo for her I really like… [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] Israella or [name_f]Liv[/name_f] Israella are the closest I’ve gotten.

[name_m]Aviv[/name_m] means spring – so you could consider the stories of both Tzippora and [name_f]Rivka[/name_f] as being placed near a spring.

My favorite is Nazarene :two_hearts: I also love Havilah and Israel as names .

Hey! I like to hear from you too. I have a toddler now, so I’ve been a lot less active the last couple years as well!
[name_f][/name_f]Good for you for having Gethsemane on your list! [name_m]An[/name_m] influencer that my aunt follows named her daughter this. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Gethsemane [name_f]Jane[/name_f] really grounds Gethsemane and makes it downright usable imo!
[name_f][/name_f]I’ve heard [name_f]Sinai[/name_f] said sye-nye. Not sure if that pronunciation is more pleasant or accurate at all! Now that I say it out loud it almost sounds like cyanide :joy:

[name_f][/name_f]

Wait wait wait, [name_m]Aviv[/name_m] means spring as in a spring of water, not spring the season? [name_f][/name_f] I know very little about the Hebrew language but man I had that really wrong :sob:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] sister’s name is a variant of [name_f]Rivka[/name_f] so this might also be a lovely honor name for her, thank you for the idea!

[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]

A toddler?! [name_f][/name_f] :sob:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] I’ve missed out on everything lol. [name_f][/name_f] Congratulations on baby! [name_f][/name_f] I would love to hear the name you ended up using; I have always loved your style!

[name_f][/name_f]

And thank you! [name_f][/name_f] I like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Gethsemane [name_f]Jane[/name_f] quite a lot but I waffle back and forth on how realistically I love it; my nephew has a similar name and it never 100% clicked as a combo. [name_f][/name_f] I would love to use Gethsemane or [name_f]Olivet[/name_f] somewhere, though, given how significant both places are in Scripture.

[name_f][/name_f]

And hahahaha yeah, maybe best to stay away from [name_f]Sinai[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] Reminds me of the famous hospital in [name_f]California[/name_f], now, too.
