Bilingual problem... About baby Heather.

Hello everyone!

So, i’ve got a little issue here about a name.
I live in the UK and my baby [name_f]Heather[/name_f] (who is now a 4 year-old baby, lol) is born raised here. (As well as my in-laws family).

I however was born and raised in [name_f]France[/name_f], and I would like my little one to spend a year or two in a [name_m]French[/name_m] school. (I alreay know which one and all…).

But I am worried about the fact that she will bear a very English name in the middle of [name_m]French[/name_m] kids who can’t pronounce a single English word correctly (hey no insult, i am french myself, lol:D).

Some people I know from there have pronounced it “[name_m]Ezer[/name_m]”, some “[name_m]Iver[/name_m]”…:confused:

I would like to know if anyone has a kinda nickname that [name_f]Heather[/name_f] could use to make the pronounciation easier to [name_m]French[/name_m] people (especially little ones:D).

Well bruyère is [name_f]Heather[/name_f] in [name_m]French[/name_m], I’ve heard someone present themselves as Bruyère when in [name_f]France[/name_f]
They don’t really have that th sound so it’s difficult to find a nickname that really looks like/ feels like [name_f]Heather[/name_f]

I’ve heard [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] used as a nickname for [name_f]Heather[/name_f]. [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] will be pronounce [name_f]Ettie[/name_f], but it is cute either way.

[name_f]Heather[/name_f]'s a beautiful name, and it’s so nice to see it on a baby.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Ezzie? [name_f]Evie[/name_f]? [name_f]Evvie[/name_f]? [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (eh-vah)? [name_u]Ever[/name_u]?

I’m trying to use nicknames of what the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation of [name_f]Heather[/name_f] would be like. :slight_smile:

Is her middle name easier for [name_m]French[/name_m] speakers? Or a variation of it maybe?

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] or [name_f]Lune[/name_f] (after Calluna vulgaris)

To answer Aurorag : I think it’s interesting that you’ve met a person called Bruyère:D but in [name_f]France[/name_f] it’s quite weird as a name. If there are some flower names that are offically names as well, Bruyère is not one of them so I think it would be weird.:confused:

To answer Pindorama : We didn’t give [name_f]Heather[/name_f] any middle names, because neither I and daddy are fond of it, but now I think it’s quite regrtetable as I never thought it could be useful in this case.:smiley:

I think I ama either going to go with a [name_m]French[/name_m] “sounds alike” such as [name_u]Ever[/name_u] or Hezzer.
Or maybe just specify the teacher about the pronunciation the first day of school lol

Calluna is another word for the plant heather so maybe something like that haha… maybe [name_u]Ever[/name_u] for a nickname?

Does she have a [name_m]French[/name_m] middle name? Or perhaps you could help her pick out a name to go by while in [name_f]France[/name_f]?

[name_f]Hea[/name_f]? Pronounced like “Heea” or “Higher”. Other than that, you could give her a french name. Our school has lots of exchange students who go by english names.
