Blair

WDYT of [name]Blair[/name] on a boy? Personally I love it and I cannot stand it on girls! I cannot for the life of me understand how it ended up on the girls side, and I can actually think of more male [name]Blair[/name]'s than female [name]Blair[/name]'s that I have met [name]IRL[/name]. I think the name is very masculine and handsome! There a even celebrity male [name]Blair[/name]'s, for example [name]Blair[/name] Underwood and [name]Blair[/name] [name]Redford[/name] ([name]Blair[/name] is actually his MN but he chooses to go by [name]Blair[/name]). So do you think it can be done or is best reserved as an MN? What do you picture a male [name]Blair[/name] looking/acting like?

I don’t think [name]Blair[/name] has to be reserved for the MN spot only, but I do think its really gone the unisex route. I know 3 [name]Blair[/name]/e’s, two girls and a boy, and I think it works equally well on either.

I’m not a fan of [name]Blair[/name], really, personally, but I have the exact same dilemma with some of the unisex names on my boys list ([name]Bailey[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] in particular). It’s really annoying, but there are just some unisex names that I don’t think it’s very nice to give to your children anymore. I’ve heard of a few people meeting boys named [name]Bailey[/name], and I think it’s just perfect, but most people think its grounds to make him a laughing stock. I don’t know if it’s really the case for [name]Blair[/name], but it definitely is for [name]Bailey[/name]. :*( [name]Blair[/name]'s not really common for either gender, so I think you could probably get away with it, but I personally prefer it on a girl, mainly because the only one I’ve known in person was a girl.

I would expect a [name]Blair[/name] to be dashing, handsome, smart, put together, approachable.

Good luck!

Thanks! I just want to make sure it is not too feminine to everyone else, because it certainly is not feminine to me

I feel like [name]Blair[/name] is the ultimate unisex name. To me, it’s very feminine and sweet. Kind of like [name]Claire[/name]. [name]Pink[/name], lace, sparkles and such. But on the other hand, it’s also very masculine, in a suave and strong way. I see it on a [name]Rhett[/name] [name]Butler[/name] type. I definitely prefer it as a male name.

If it’s what you want to do, then go for it! Very handsome name.

I agree that it seems like a very strong unisex name to me. For a girl, I don’t see pink and lace like reesehere…I see more [name]Halle[/name] [name]Berry[/name] as Catwoman…leather and a bad attitude.

For a boy, it seems dangerous and kind of like [name]Christian[/name] [name]Bale[/name] as [name]Bat[/name] [name]Man[/name]. I know a boy named Blair who spells it Blaire and he’s not Christian Bale type, but he is the motorcycle riding, bad boy type >.<

For me, they are both very awesome images, if that’s the look you want. Obvious reesehere and I have very different images of this name, and you might get that from other people too. I’d be curious to know what you see when you think of [name]Blair[/name] [name]Lyndsey[/name]! (Though I know you hate it for a girl)

[name]IMO[/name] I think of [name]Blair[/name] Waldorf from Gossip Girl… Not the best image for a daughter as [name]Blair[/name] Waldorf is manipulative and cruel to everyone she meets…

Thanks!

@dantea - I think of a girl [name]Blair[/name] as more of a bad girl type as well and that does not fit with my frilly, girly, ballerina style  For a boy though I see a handsome, kind of rough around the edges, all boy type! I think all my boys names give a strong, handsome, and rough and tough feel (at least to me that is) so that is generally what I go for when picking a boys name. My boys and girls lists are very different LOL

@ladybug - that is very much the image I get for a female [name]Blair[/name] but my boys image is so drastically different!
