[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [BLEHR] is from a Scottish surname derived from the Gaelic blár meaning “plain, field, meadow, battlefield”. It charts in [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]Zealand[/name_u] and [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] for boys and in the United States for girls.
For me, it is a softer name that makes me think of farms and rolling hillsides. There’s a slightly feminine quality to it that I find very appealing in a name. It feels a bit like it could be the name of a farmer, rancher, or someone who works the earth or even with animals too.
What do you think of the name [name_u]Blair[/name_u] for a boy? Which, if any, of the combos below do you like? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions?
I like it in accents that pronounce the R; as that is not the case for me, it just sounds like BLEH, which isn’t very pretty.
However, I do like it for boys, much more in the middle though as I feel it’s just so unexpected there and adds something super interesting to any combo.
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] is one of my favorites!! I’ve always thought of it as a girl name (most likely due to [name_u]Blair[/name_u] Waldorf), but i think it’s really cool for a boy. And i can totally imagine the free-spirited farm boy named [name_u]Blair[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite combos are
i love it for both girls and boys; it’s probably my favorite unisex name. i’m actually currently brainstorming combos for blair, and so far i’ve come up with percy blair and blair laurence/laurence blair. i love blair ignatius and blair finlay out of your combos.
I like it! The only [name_u]Blair[/name_u] I’ve ever met was a man, so it does lean boy for me anyway.
I like [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]William[/name_u] and [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], but I also think [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] and [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] sound nice.
If it was to use [name_u]Blair[/name_u], it would be on a girl, but I still think it works well for boys When you pair it with a more masculine middle, it’s great.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites on your list are [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Alden[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Weston[/name_m]!
I’m sorry I didn’t didn’t have the chance to reply to everyone yesterday.
@OpheliaFlora: That is a very good point! I mostly hear people speaking with a rhotic R, so I didn’t think of that.
@carrington: I love it for a boy and a girl, it’s probably one of my favorites either way.
Thanks!
@new.romantic: It’s my favorite unisex name as well. [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] is awesome. I also like your [name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] / [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]. They’re very handsome.
@Greyblue: Rugged yet gentle is the perfect way to describe [name_u]Blair[/name_u].

I have a daughter named [name_u]Blair[/name_u] so I do think it leans more feminine, but I know it was originally a male prominent name. I could see it working on a boy.

Your daughter has a great name. I love it for a girl as well and actually have a thread for it on the girl’s forum here too.
Blair Bellamy is quite handsome! I do tend to think of Bellamy as feminine for some reason so it feels a bit too much so with Blair, unfortunately. It’s such a good suggestion though.
Blair Spencer has a nice sound. Spencer isn’t a name I think of much.
Blair Ambrose is ticking all the right boxes for me. I really enjoy it.
Callahan and Calloway are interesting. I actually went to school with a girl whose middle name was Calloway.
I love the name [name_u]Blair[/name_u] for both genders, but especially for boys! So many great combos you have listed! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites, in order, are:
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Wesley[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u] is such a standout to me, I love the balance of short vs. long in sound and looks and I think it flows so well!
